Corresponding author email: [email protected] 1 , [email protected] *2 ABSTRACT Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a widespread metabolic complication during pregnancy, which is linked to both maternal and newborn poor outcomes. Prevention of complications is important and can only be achieved through early detection. Methods: New biomarkers (Leptin, Adiponectin, and HbA1c) have demonstrated potential in being used to predict high- risk pregnant women before they develop clinical hyperglycemia. It is a cross-sectional study that evaluated these biomarkers in 75 pregnant women of different ages in Najaf Al-Ashraf and their association with GDM. Results: The findings showed that high levels of Leptin and low levels of Adiponectin were greatly related to high insulin resistance and high chances of developing GDM. High HbA1c during the early pregnancy was also associated with poor maternal outcomes, such as gestational hypertension, macrosomia, and preterm birth. Conclusion: The predictive ability of the combination of these biomarkers was greater than the predictive ability of individual markers. These results are indicative of the fact that Leptin, Adiponectin, and HbA1c measured in early pregnancy will be useful in early detection of high-risk women and intervention timely to support maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Keywords: Leptin, Adiponectin, HbA1c, Maternal Health, Gestational Diabetes.

Background: Pharmacological management of obesity has occurred through weight loss injection, such as Saxenda, Ozempic, and Mounjaro. These agents control appetite, satiety and glucose metabolism that stimulate caloric intake and weight loss. Although they are generally safe, any drug has the possibility of causing side effects primarily the gastrointestinal ones and infrequent severe effects, such as pancreatitis. Purpose: This research was intended to determine the effectiveness of Saxenda, Ozempic and Mounjaro and their side effects in relation to the reduction of body weight in adults in Najaf, Iraq. Methodology: The study involved a cross-sectional study in the period between January and April 2025 in Najaf. Fifty adult patients who visited nutrition and obesity clinics were involved. The demographic, body weight, and side effect data collected was through self-administered questionnaires. The use of descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, ANOVA and regression analyses were used. Findings: The majority of them were women aged 20-45 years. The most common used (52%), Ozempic (30%), and Mounjaro (18%). There was a significant weight reduction (p < 0.01) with Mounjaro recording the highest mean reduction. The prevalence of gastrointestinal side effects was highest, but with a minor variation in drugs. The regression analysis showed that physical activity and type of medication played a major role in weight loss outcomes. Conclusion: Saxenda, Ozempic, and Mounjaro are viable in reducing weight in the short term. Mounjaro caused the weight loss to the maximum. The side-effects were generally mild. It is advisable to incorporate these medications with lifestyle changes in order to handle obesity in the best way possible.

مختصر البحث

Background: In the world, cardiovascular diseases are the best morbidity and mortality causes. Objective: The proposed research is a comparative study of the therapeutic implications of Sacubitril/Valsartan (SAC/VAL) and Apelin-13 on the therapeutic effects of the effects of cardiac diseases induced experimentally in rats. Methods: Wistar rats were randomly selected as males and divided into three groups; control, SAC /VAL -treated, and Apelin-13 -treated. The physiological parameters, serum biochemical markers, inflammatory markers, and heart-specific biomarkers were used to evaluate the cardiac functioning. The data were given in the form of mean +- SD and tested via one-way ANOVA. Results: The findings indicated that SAC/VAL had significant cardiac parameter improvements over Apelin-13 and control groups, whereas Apelin-13 had moderate cardioprotective improvements. Conclusion: SAC/VAL demonstrates better cardioprotective properties than Apelin13 in rats with induced cardiac disease, has a better lipid profile, lowering myocardial injury, and decreasing inflammation. Protective effects are also provided by Apelin-13 but could be most effectively implemented as a form of adjunctive therapy. These results allow speculating on possible treatment plans of cardiac dysfunction.

مختصر البحث

Background: Asthma is a long-term inflammatory disease of the airways that is prevalent mostly in children, and its early diagnosis is not easy because of the similarity of the disease to other respiratory diseases. Objective: This paper examines the interaction between the ABO blood groups and the early diagnostic biomarkers- FeNO, serum IgE, periostin, TSLP, and T2 cytokines in asthma in children. Methods: A total of 50 children with established asthma were recruited as well as 30 children with intermittent asthma-like symptoms recruited in Najaf teaching hospitals. Results: Asthmatic children, compared to the intermittent group, had significant increases in FeNO, IgE, periostin, TSLP, and T2 cytokines. There was a greater prevalence of blood group A in asthmatic children. The findings point to the possibility of using blood group distribution in conjunction with T2-inflammation biomarkers to improve the ability to detect asthma early and phenotype it in children. Conclusions : High levels of FeNO, IgE, periostin, TSLP, and T2 cytokines have a strong association with pediatric asthma. A- Splenic blood group A seems to be more prevalent in asthmatic children. The incorporation of the biomarkers with the ABO phenotyping can help to enhance early diagnosis of asthma. Keywords: ABO Blood Groups, Inflammatory Biomarkers, Pediatric Asthma.

CT Article History: Received 10 March 2022 Accepted 13 June 2022 Published 01 July 2022 Keywords: Cytotoxicity Histopatholgical abnormalities Nanosilver Nanotechnology Due of its potent antibacterial effect, nanosilver is among the most commonly used nanomaterials. As a result of this, there is a growing concern regarding the potential adverse effects of these nanoparticles due to the rising likelihood that humans may be exposed to nanosilver. In this research, we studied the possible cutaneous toxicity of silver nanoparticles in rats. The statistical population of this study consisted of 30 adult male Swiss albino rats (100-150g). They were acquired from animal farm of the Egyptian Organization for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA Holding Company), Cairo, Egypt. For this experiment, they were split into the treatment and control groups (n = 15) at random. Anesthetics were administered to all animals, and the backs were shaved around the spinal column in the nanosilver group and the control group, respectively. The sterile bandages of rats were then moistened with distilled water (in control) or a volume of 55µl of 15µg/ml of nanosilver solution (in treatment) before being adhered to the skin with cloth glue. The bandages were removed after 4 and 8 days, and standard kits were used to determine the serum levels of two groups of rats’ aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), creatinine (Cr), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). BUN, AST, and ALT levels in the treatment group over the experiment periods were significantly higher than those in the control group (p<0.05). According to the results of this study, 15µg/ml nanosilver (45nm) absorbed through the skin can cause renal toxicity and hepatotoxicity in rats.
