AbstractTo investigate whether the soil itself is a potential source of radon, using CR-39 track solid State nuclear detection devices (SSNTDS), measured concentrations in local soils various Radon results that total radon concentrations ranged from (36.700 to 73.737) Bq/m3 at an average (47.137) Bq/m3 in the city of Babylon while radon in the city of Karbala is concentrated from (35.016 to 115.824) Bq/m3 with an average value of (57.743) Bq/m3, respectively. Annual effective dose and lung cancer cases are calculated annually per million people for all samples was found in the study area (50.228 to 24.999) in Babylon with an average value (32.588) While from (78.897 to 23.852) with an average value (39.333) in Karbala. The Ep were varied from (0.431 to 0.214) mSv/y with an average value (0.279) mSv/ y in Babylon city. While the value Ep in the soil of Karbala between (0.677 to 0.204) mSv/y with an average value (0.337). The results showed that radon concentrations and resultant doses from several samples investigated were less than the safe limits recommended by WHO in some respects.

AbstractNatural radioactivity in the soil is the main reason behind this research. So, the natural radioactivity (40K, 238U, and 232Th) in soil samples have been measured in ten primary schools at north of Al-Najaf province. Materials and Methods: The specific activities (214Bi belongs to the uranium-238 series; 208TI belongs to the thorium -232 string and a natural radionuclide 40K) have been indicated by using spectral analysis technique of Gamma-ray of 3”x3” NaI(Tl) scintillation detector has been used. Results: The average value of specified activity for 40K, 238U, and 232Th in all samples is (201.47±24.47) Bq/kg, (10.17±1.78) Bq/kg, and (5.91±0.83) Bq/kg respectively. In this work, the majority of the hazard indices were calculated. The average value of radium Equivalent Activity was (16.673±1.71) Bq/kg, Absorbed Gamma Dose was (16.673±1.71) nGy⁄h, external hazard index was (0.092±0.009), internal hazard index was (0.120±0.013), representative gamma index was (0.261±0.026), Annual influential dose equivalent indoor was (0.082±0.008), for Annual influential dose equivalent outdoor was (0.020±0.002) mSv/y, and excess lifetime cancer risk was (0.358±0.03) × 10-3. Conclusion: Most of the detected readings are in the recommended values by (UNSCEAR, OECD, and ICRP) When compared with the worldwide average (40K=412 Bq/kg, 238U=35 Bq/kg, and 232Th= 45 Bq/kg). In other words, ten primary schools at Al- Najaf governorates are safe for work and free of radiation hazards to students.

Abstract-Natural radioactivity has attracted a lot of attention in the
world due to its crucial role in human safety. macaroni (Macaroni) is a
dry, hollow pastry, made from cereals such as wheat, rice and barley.
Macaroni is one of the basic and important for human beings, as well
as its proven usefulness to the general health of human beings.
Therefore, the measurement of natural radioactivity is a critical
because of its direct impact on human safety. In this research,
quantification has been made of natural radionuclide concentrations
using NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectrometry. The analyses of samples reveal
the mean activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, 40K% are found to
4.5E-01±0.071, 4.46±0.163 and 2.14±0.021, respectively. RLI,AUI,IC
and Iα were also calculated the values were less than one also
estimated annual gonadal equivalent dose (AGED) resulting with an
average 302.98±07.59 mSv.y-1 where was higher than globally limits.
Consumption of macaroni for adult was found (0.035±0.0015) mSv.y-1
which less than global studies , while the average value of cancer risk
(ELCR) 1.21E-04±0.000005*10-3 mSv.y-1 Below the international
permissible limits. The study can be considered as a basis for future
studies on this basic substance in food.

Abstract In this paper, we present a calculation method for evaluating the possibility of enhancing the thermal stability of nickel silicide by alloying with metals, which consists in determining the formation enthalpy (∆H) of nickel silicide using the Miedema model. Changes in formation enthalpy (∆H) were observed for nickel silicides that were alloyed with Mo, Pt, Pd, W, and Zr. The MAAT (Materials Analysis Applying Thermodynamics) software was used to calculate and plot the formation enthalpy of binary and ternary systems. Based on our calculations, we found that in binary systems, the optimum values to expand the formation enthalpy were 51.28 and 49.57 kJ/mol for nickel silicide alloys. For the ternary system, the results showed that adding Zr could increase monosilicide phase stability.

JournalInternational Journal of Radiation Research
AbstractThis research focuses on the study of 40K, 238U, and 232Th in a specific area at Kufa Cement Factory Sites in Najaf Governorate, Iraq using the γ-ray spectrometry scintillation detector NaI(Tl). Materials and Methods: Samples of soil were collected from locations around the Kufa cement factory in Najaf city of Iraq that are about 10 km2 away from the center of Najaf city. They were analyzed to set the concentrations of natural radioactivity samples of 40K,238U and 232Th. Results: The specific activity values of 40k, 238U and 232Th varied from (378.54±11.39 to 2404.27±26.13)Bq/kg, (15.51±5.88 to 106.08±7.35) Bq/kg and (1.80±3.41 to78.19±3.05) Bq/kg continually. Conclusions: Results demonstrate that the convergences of radiation and doses due to radionuclides in the overviewed area are higher than the safety field of the worldwide average (UNSCAER 2000). Almost all of the radiological parameters are inconsequential to cause any dangerous health problems to people living in the area.

Abstract Flour is a nutritious type of food that is widely consumed by various age groups in Iraq. This study investigates the presence of long-lived gamma emitters in different type of flour in Iraqi market. Uranium (238U), Thorium (232Th) and Potassium (40K) specific activity in (Bq.kg-1) were estimated in (15) unique kinds of flours that are accessible in Iraqi markets. The gamma spectrometry method with a NaI(Tl) detector has been utilized for radiometric measurements. Likewise right now have determined the internal hazard index. It is found that the specific activity in Flour samples were varied from (13.73±1.89) Bq.kg-1 to (2.60±0.30) Bq.kg-1 with an average (8.75) Bq.kg-1 for 238U, For 232Th From (67.79±0.44) Bq.kg-1 to (9.96±0.14) Bq.kg-1 with an average (21.88) Bq.kg-1 and for 40K from (2680.74 ± 23.60) Bq.kg- 1 to (283.70±3.41) Bq.kg-1 with an average (133.09) Bq.kg-1. Also, it is found that the Outdoor and indoor annual effective absorbed dose equivalent also (Hin) hazard indices was (0.302±0.014) and average annual committed effective dose(0.2205±0.030) mSv.y-1 in the flour samples . This study prove that the natural radioactivity and radiation danger records were low also estimated cancer risk has no significant health hazard in Iraqi Flour
