RADON DOSE AND LUNG CANCER CASES PER YEAR PER MILLION PEOPLE IN SOIL MIDDLE IRAQ
To investigate whether the soil itself is a potential source of radon, using CR-39 track solid State nuclear detection devices (SSNTDS), measured concentrations in local soils various Radon results that total radon concentrations ranged from (36.700 to 73.737) Bq/m3 at an average (47.137) Bq/m3 in the city of Babylon while radon in the city of Karbala is concentrated from (35.016 to 115.824) Bq/m3 with an average value of (57.743) Bq/m3, respectively. Annual effective dose and lung cancer cases are calculated annually per million people for all samples was found in the study area (50.228 to 24.999) in Babylon with an average value (32.588) While from (78.897 to 23.852) with an average value (39.333) in Karbala. The Ep were varied from (0.431 to 0.214) mSv/y with an average value (0.279) mSv/ y in Babylon city. While the value Ep in the soil of Karbala between (0.677 to 0.204) mSv/y with an average value (0.337). The results showed that radon concentrations and resultant doses from several samples investigated were less than the safe limits recommended by WHO in some respects.
