The aim: The purpose of this study is to find out the association between procalcitonin and hepcidin in patients with COVID-19, in addition to their role as diagnostic markers.

Hypothyroidism is the most common long-term consequence after total thyroidectomy. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the lipid profile and liver function in patients after hypothyroidism. Sixty patients who underwent a surgical operation to remove thyroid were included in this study, and thirty healthy subjects were used as a control. The study was conducted at Al-Sadr Medical City in Al-Najaf city, in Iraq, from October 2020 to March 2021. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) was very high in patients at a hypothyroid stage after hypothyroidism. The results showed a significant increase in total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and the ratio of total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, Cryptosporidium, and Blastocystis are some parasites primarily responsible for human infections. Giardia lamblia, also known as Giardia intestinalis or Giardia duodenalis, is a common pathogenic protozoan found in the human duodenum and jejunum that causes giardiasis. This study collected stool and blood samples from patients with diarrhea aged less than 1 month to 15 years, from September 2020 to December 2020, in Thi-Qar province. Our study aimed to reveal the diagnosis of Giardia lamblia using direct microscopy examination and detect some immunological parameters such as IL-17 and IL-35 in patients infected with giardiasis.

Electrical generators in Iraq have been a series problem regarding occupational and environmental pollution. The current study aimed to determine the level of general health status among generator workers in Al Diwaniyah City Iraq, and its correlation with noise and demographic data . A descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted in the current study . It was carried out at the private electrical generators in A-Diwaniyah City from the period between the 15th of October 2020 until the 15th of March 2021 . A purposive study of 150 generator workers has been selected .General health was determined by General Health questionnaire (GHQ-28) which is comprised of 28 items, and include four aspects : somatic, social , depression and anxiety . Noise intensity level was measured by sound level meter (SLM) . The results of the present study revealed that average level of noise intensity inside the workers’ room was (78.12 db) ; while it was (104.14 db) near the generator . The results also showed that the assessment of most domain (social, depression, and anxiety) was moderate, except for somatic domain which it was good . There was a significant negative correlation between noise and depression and anxiety . It has been concluded that : Most of the generator workers showed a moderate level of general health status ; Most of the generators workers had moderate level for anxiety, depression and social aspects ; Noise intensities inside the generator rooms exceeds the upper limits accepted for human health .

Recently, a great attention has been paid to the role of hormones as a diagnostic too in the evaluation of female infertility . The purpose of this study was to identify the association between female infertility and hormonal imbalance (FSH, LH and Prolactin) and what is the relationship between these hormones and the woman's socio- demographic and clinical characteristics. The study was carried out at the Fertility Center in Al-Sadr Medical City, which is located in Najaf province, Iraq, during the period from Dec, 2014 to Apr, 2015. The study involved (44) infertile women who attended the Fertility Center. In accordance to the socio-demographic data, the majority of the studies women were from urban regions (81.18%), while all them were housewives. The clinical history revealed a relatively high percentage (56.82%) of vaginitis, and UTI (50%) among the studies women, while most of them were either overweight (40.91%) or obese (22.73%). The results showed that the majority of studies women had normal hormonal levels according to the standard reference limits for FSH, LH and Prolactin. The study also showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the level of FSH and the age of the studies infertile women. It was concluded that hormonal imbalance for (LH, FSH and prolactin) is just a minor suspected etiologic factor in causing infertility in the studies women the level of FSH increases with age, while the level of prolactin slightly decreases with age. It was recommended to achieve a comprehensive case-control study for evaluating hormonal imbalance of (FSH, LH, prolactin, estrogens, progesterone, thyroid and inhibit) hormones in the infertile women.

Professor Ali Abdulzahra Mahdi, from the College of Nursing at the University of Kufa, participated as a supervising member in the discussion of the doctoral dissertation submitted by student Mohammed Fakhri on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The dissertation addressed an important topic in pediatric care titled: “Effectiveness of a Structured Educational Program in Enhancing Nurses’ Knowledge and Practice Regarding Massage as a Non-Pharmacological Intervention for Infantile Colic.” The study was conducted at Al-Hussein Children’s Hospital under the Diwaniyah Health Directorate, from October 23, 2023, to July 1, 2025, with the participation of 80 nurses. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design to collect data using demographic questionnaires, knowledge assessment tests, and observation checklists for practicing massage on simulation dolls. The results indicated that nurses’ knowledge and skills were limited before the educational program, but showed significant improvement following the intervention, particularly in understanding the nature of infantile colic, the correct massage techniques, and its therapeutic benefits. No statistically significant relationship was observed between demographic variables and the outcomes after the program. The dissertation recommended integrating infant massage into the nursing curricula at both undergraduate and graduate levels to enhance the quality of healthcare provided to infants based on contemporary scientific foundations.

The workshop includes valuable information and skills for researchers and postgraduate students to enhance the dissemination and global citation rate of their research and scientific articles

The honorable President of the University, Prof. Dr. Yasser Lafta Hassoun, the honorable lecturer in our college, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul Zahra Mahdi, for his role in the success of the training courses at the Center for Continuing Education, especially in the Teaching Methods Division. The honor came on the sidelines of the opening of the new halls at the Center for Continuing Education.

The Basic Sciences Branch held a workshop entitled (Non-Sexual Differences between Males and Females), on Tuesday 12/20/2022. The workshop lecture was delivered by (Professor Ali Abdel-Zahra Al-Fahham), and the method of interactive questions was used in delivering the lecture. The lecture included a statement of ten non-sexual differences between males and females, some of which are related to the anatomy of the nervous system, while others relate to memory and its nature, intelligence and its types, the ability to perform arithmetic operations, and the ability to perform multiple functions. The workshop was attended by a number of branch heads and faculty teachers.

A translated book entitled (Medicine and Public Health in Nahj Al-Balagha) was published by the Prince Center for Specialized Studies, co-translated by Prof. Yahya Kazem Al-Sultani, and Dr. Ali Abdul Zahra Al-Fahham
