مختصر البحثThe subject of Urban Heat Islands (UHI) has become a global research topic in recent years. The relationship between urban composition and UHI density has not been extensively studied, where most studies of height ratios in buildings take advantage of their area on the ground and the area they occupy. The description of the urban environment in the conventional methods is of little use to urban planners. Preliminary plans for the construction of the building and the distribution of buildings in the city and commercial and industrial ones are a very important reason for the processing of UHI and the reduction of thermal concentration in cities for the sake of overcoming it using remote sensing techniques and satellite images. The problem and the causes and proposed solutions to them can be restricted using the scientific indices of remote sensing capabilities.
Remote sensing techniques have the ability to introduce accurate results for large areas via the interrelationship amongst numerous indices. The choice of the subject is necessary, especially since the study area is one of the tourist attractions, and it has recently been affected by the factors of climate change, so studies must be conducted in this regard, which are few for the region and the choice of ways to preserve the tourist attractions of the region. The relationship between urban composition and UHI density was studied. The results confirm these assumptions, with regard to the density of construction, land cover, and the capaciousness of an area. The steady increase in the capacity of the natural lake within Bahr An-Najaf near Tar An-Najaf (Escarpment) of An-Najaf City has affected the city's moderate temperatures and the disappearance of the heat islands, which were formed and increased by the uncontrolled use of groundwater.
Assessment of the Marshes in Southern Iraq
Using Remote Sensing Techniques

مختصر البحثIraq is one of the dry regions, especially in the southern regions, where rains do not compensate the
quantities of water lost due to evaporation, as the water in those regions that form the marshes, which
originate from the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, and to some extent Karkheh and Karun Rivers must
receive special attention in terms of regulating the quantities of water coming to them from the
aforementioned sources besides rain, as well as regulating the outgoing water from them through the
Shatt Al-Arab, which drains it to the Arabian Gulf. Here, there must be specialized studies that take
upon themselves the feasibility of benefiting from the water concentrated in the marshes. These
studies are dealt with irrigation and drainage methods, and studies dealing with the area in terms of
the feasibility of agriculture from hydrological concepts. Measuring the ability of the marshes to meet
the water needs of farmers, given that the water of the marshes is one of the hydrological features
that make that water suitable for agriculture to some extent, if the marshes are considered strategic
reservoirs. The importance of the studied area comes from the marshes were chosen within the list of
UNESCO World Heritage.
The study concerns the urgent need to protect the national wealth from losses through monitoring
the active borders of the marshes utilizing remote sensing techniques to determine the landuse and
landcover change (LULCC) for successive years.
Using Optimum Index Factor and Determinant Covariance

مختصر البحثThe research focuses on mixing of Landsat8 ETM+ images for sector of Tar An- Najaf
Phenomenon for the sake of gaining the optimum description showing the ground guidelines of
the studied area. The optimum Index Factor (OIF) method has ensured that RGB567 represents
the preferred mixed bands, where vegetated areas, water and rocks and deposits more obviously
distributed. The determinant covariance matrix method stated that RGB457 considered the
optimum for spectral resolution. For comparison with Principal Component Analysis, the latter
involves PC1,2,3 and shows clear variations that serve the interpreter as a detailed study.
Through the study, the best method is the second one.

مختصر البحثThe most important problems of land degradation are represented by the soil salinization that concentrated particularly in arid and semi-arid environments due to high levels of temperature and evaporation. The study focuses on elucidation of the ability of Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor data with its visible and infrared bands for detection and mapping of soil salinity (SS) according to salinity levels in dispersed locations of An-Najaf Governorate. Seven soil salinity indices (SSI) have been applied and assessed to detect soil salinity effectually. The multiple linear regression (MLR) has been applied to explore the correlation between various spectral indices and bands with ground measurements of electrical conductivity (ECm) for the sake of prediction of the soil salinity. Strong correlations have been found between the (SSIs) and (ECm). Thematic maps for soil salinity using GIS have been produced and acceptably evaluated.

مختصر البحثThe temperature is of high importance on the climate change. It is the most
important climate elements which in turn affects on other climatic elements. You can rely
on remote sensing techniques in many fields, including in estimating the degree of the
earth's surface temperature and to know the effect of land use in temperature distribution
.The surface temperature of An-Najaf City and surroundings have determined by lunar
satellite images (Landsat_8), where both packages 10 and 11 thermal using special
mathematical relationships concerning temperature to calculate the Land Surface
Temperature (LST). The study of remote sensing indices has proved the effective
discrimination of land use applications.
LAND USE / COVER CHANGE DETECTION OF KUFA CITY, CENTRAL PART OF IRAQ USING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES

مختصر البحث The large population growth of the province of Najaf, the latest great pressure on the city of Kufa, and the lack of adequate housing areas within the administrative boundaries has resulted in an increase of slums to a crawl towards agricultural areas and bypassed outside the administrative design of the city. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have the potential to provide accurate information regarding land use and land cover changes. This paper testifies the appropriate techniques utilized to detect land use and land cover changes and the effect of irregular expansion on the urban planning.
