Synthesis of new grafted triazolyl polymer based on polyvinyl chloride backbone
Abstract: In this study, new grafted polymers were synthesized through the reaction of propargylic ionic liquids with polyvinyl azide. The synthesis began with the preparation of propargylic ionic liquids by reacting propargyl chloride with methyl- and butyl-imidazole. In a parallel step, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) was converted to its azide derivative, rendering it reactive for a 1,3-Huisgen cycloaddition. The coupling of propargylic ionic liquids with polyvinyl azide via the copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) "click" reaction yielded the desired grafted polymers in good yields. The resulting polymers were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques.
