About

I graduated and got my BSC degree from School of Pharmacy, University of. Baghdad in 2000. During my study and after graduation I was interested in
the field of industrial pharmacy. That was enough motivation for me to carry out my scientific journey to pursue my MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology from University Sains Malaysia in 2009. Then I got my PhD in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of Manchester, the UK in 2017.
My research interests are mainly focusing on developing a new dosage form and drug delivery to the site of action. This dosage form must be flexible enough so that it could be loaded with different active ingredient and actively target the site of action. The disease that I am interested to heal is Alzheimer's disease.

Date2022-05-25
Abstract

Diclofenac Sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Diclofenac sodium topically (gel 1%) has mild site reactions, with a relatively short duration of action and low permeability need for multiple uses. This study aimed to produce hydrogel of proniosomes to enhancing solubility and permeation of diclofenac topical used. Proniosome was prepared by using the coacervation phase separation method using Span 60 and Tween 80, lecithin and cholesterol. The hydrogel base was prepared from carbopol 940, then Proniosome was mixed in ratio one to one (1:1). Viscosity, release, permeation and stability were assayed. Results revealed a successfully prepared hydrogel loaded with proniosomes, which was consequently loaded with its payload. The release study carried out in vitro revealed a control-released behaviour over 28 hours which was 6 fold higher than the ordinary preparation i.e. lack of proniosomes. To sum up, the hydrogel of Proniosome preparation loading with Diclofenac Sodium was approved to overcome controlled release and skin permeation problems.

Abstract

Objective: The present study was performed to compare the quality of conventional tablets loaded with candesartan cilexetil. The selected candesartan cilexetil tablets were commercialized in the Iraq market and produced by different companies. Methods: Different batches of candesartan cilexetil oral tablets (the concentration of candesartan was 8 mg) were subjected to quality control tests. Tests included weight variation, friability, hardness, drug content, disintegration time and in vitro release study. The protocols of these tests were performed according to USP pharmacopeia. Results: The results, in this study, revealed that all the used batches of candesartan cilexetil oral tablets complied with the specification of USP pharmacopeia for weight uniformity, friability value (% loss) was<1. Hardness results of the tablets were 4.9-6.6 Kg/cm2, which was within the required limits (i.e. 4-8 Kg/cm2). Disintegration time was<15 min in both Simulated Gastric Fluid (SGF) and Simulated Intestinal Fluid (SIF). The percentage of drug content in all marketed tablets was found between 96.2 % and 99.8 %, reflecting compliance with the pharmacopeia limits (i.e. 85-115 %). An in vitro release study indicated that the release of all marketed tablets exceeds 80 % within 15 min. Conclusion: All the studied tablets, loaded with candesartan cilexetil, were produced within the standard criteria of tablet production. The quality control analysis of the selected tablets, in this study, revealed satisfactory pharmaceutical properties (including safety and effectiveness) that comply within the limits of USP pharmacopeia.

Date2020-03-23
Abstract

This research aimed to enhance the loading capacity of kojic acid dipalmitate (KDP) to liposomes. Liposomes were prepared by the thin-lipid film hydration method. The particle size, polydispersity index and zeta-potential were analysed using photon correlation spectroscopy. KDP was loaded into liposomes by active loading method. The stability study was studied for over 2 months. Atomic force microscopy was used to study the morphology of the liposomes. The particle sizes of liposomes were in the range of 80-100 nm. Liposomes particle were homogeneous with PDI ≤ 0.2 and zeta-potential of -0.5 to - 0.6 mV. No significant particle size changes over time were seen, reflecting stable liposomes. The KDPloading capacity increased from 0.61% to 28.12 % with homogeneously distributed particles. Liposomes were stable and loaded with KDP with enhanced loading capacity, allowing a promising formulation of KDP to enhance its bioavailability and therapeutic capacity.

Abstract

Aggregation of amyloid β1–42 (Aβ1–42) peptide within the brain is considered one of the main causes of the neuropathological changes associated with Alzheimer's disease. Resveratrol is a well-known antioxidant but has also been reported to bind to Aβ1–42 peptide, thereby reducing aggregation. However, little is known of the precise mechanism by which resveratrol reduces Aβ1–42 peptide aggregation. Using the thioflavin-T assay, the ability of resveratrol to reduce the extent of Aβ1–42 peptide aggregation was investigated. The findings of the present study demonstrate that interaction of resveratrol with Aβ1–42 peptide resulted in the cleavage of Aβ1–42 peptide into smaller fragments, as detected by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry. Atomic force microscopy analyses revealed Aβ1–42 peptide, under control conditions, aggregated into oligomers, protofibrils, and fibrils, whereas there was a distinct lack of these structures when Aβ1–42 peptide was incubated with resveratrol. Following 10 days incubation of Aβ1–42 peptide with resveratrol, particles with a mean z-height of 1.940 nm (range 0.675–3.275 nm) were observed, which are characteristic of shorter peptide species. In cell-based studies, resveratrol significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of Aβ1–42 peptide toward SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells, suggesting a protective effect of the polyphenol. We therefore propose a novel mechanism by which resveratrol disrupts Aβ1–42 aggregation by mediating fragmentation of Aβ1–42 into smaller peptides, which have no propensity to aggregate further.

Formulation and stability of whitening VCO-in-water nano-cream

AuthorsSarmad Al-Edresi, .Saringat Baie
JournalInternational Journal of Pharmaceutics
Date2009-02-13
Abstract

Virgin coconut oil (VCO)-in-water, nano-emulsion in the form of cream stabilized by Emulium Kappa® as an emulsifier, was prepared by using the Emulsion Inversion Point method. A nano-emulsion with droplet size <300 nm was then obtained. VCO has recently become a more popular new material in the cosmetic industries. Emulium Kappa® is an ionic emulsifier that contains sodium stearoyl lactylate, the active whitening ingredient was Kojic Dipalmitate. Ostwald ripening is the main destabilizing factor for the nano-emulsion. This decline can be reduced by adding non-soluble oil, namely squalene, to the virgin coconut oil. We tested VCO:squalene in the ratios of 10:0, 9.8:0.2, 9.6:0.4, 9.4:0.6, 9.2:0.8, 9:1 and 8:2 and discovered that squalene's higher molecular weight (above critical molecular weight) resulted in low polarity and insolubility in the continuous phase. The continuous partitioning between the droplets results in the decline of Ostwald ripening. Furthermore, flocculation may occur due to the instability of nano-emulsion, especially for the preparations with little or no squalene at all. The stability of the nano-emulsion was evaluated by the electrophoretic properties of the emulsion droplets. The zeta potential values for the emulsion increased as the percentage of squalene oil increased.

Nanomedicine includes the use of nanoscale resources, such as biocompatible nanoparticles and nanorobots for sending, diagnosis, sensing or actuation drives in a living creature. Nanotechnology has many descriptions but in general it is the use and presentation of materials with sizes in the nanometre range. Just as a millimetre is one-thousand of a metre, a nanometre is one-millionth of a millimetre. In more comprehensible terms, a human hair is roughly 90,000 nanometres in diameter and the developing science and industry of nanotechnology utilises materials below 2000 nanometres. Assistances of working at this very small scale have been seen for many years over such assorted areas as electronics and energy storage to sunscreens and food packaging.
