Framelet transform with DCT for image compression
In this research we introduce idea for image compression, based on DCT technique and Framelete transform, this technique is using for color and gray image compression, this new technique Hybrid between Framelete Transform and Discrete Cosine Transform to get higher quality than Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) and JPEG2000 and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and good compression ratio. at first using three level Framelet Transform (FLT) to obtain LL3 sub-band, then quantization and eliminate zeros from each sub-band, and then compress each sub-band by Arithmetic Coding, finally compress LL3 sub-band by using DCT then quantization this sub-band then compress it by Arithmetic Coding. The Decompression algorithm consists of; Inverse DCT to get decoded LL3, and apply inverse FLT to get decompressed image. Our algorithm tested on gray and color images and compared with JPEG and JPEG2000. And show that the proposed algorithm gets best possible solution for tradeoff between compression ratio (size of image) and quality of compressed image (PSNR). The simulation was carried using MATLAB software package version 2016.
