Serum BAFF Concentration is useful indicator in patients with newly diagnosed of Graves' disease
Background :- Graves’ disease (GD) is an autoimmune disorder specific for thyroid gland causes overactive thyroid . B-cell activating factor (BAFF) of TNF family is cytokines which responsible on important a role for regulating B lymphocytes proliferation and survival . Increase level this cytokines within currency used to be celebrated of a number of kinds on autoimmune diseases . There had been no reviews focusing over the potent relationship among the activity of newly diagnosed of GD and BAFF . To discover the pathophysiologic function over BAFF of GD we investigated serum level of BAFF in sufferers with GD. Methods :- We managed fifty patients newly identified as GD and twenty five as healthy controls. We measured BAFF level in serum levels by ELISA , thyroid stimulated hormone and thyroid hormone by VIDAS in both controls and GD patients. Results :- BAFF serum level was significantly elevated in sufferers along GD compared than controls (1237.41± 71.79 pg/mL vs. 537.33±48.71pg/ mL ,P< 0.05) . The serum BAFF level was considerably related to with T3 and T4 , a helpful indicator for the activity of GD. Conclusions :- We conclude that BAFF concentrations are increased in GD patients, is based on pathophysiological of B-cell-driven mechanism not depended on the age and BMI but BAFF level are higher significantly in females than males .
