A Green Product Using Selective Compound for Susceptible Assessment of Copper in Blood Serum

AuthorsHussain Kirem1 , Naser Abdulhasan Naser
JournalCurrent Applied Science and Technology
Abstract

A highly reliable approach for assessment of copper(II) in blood serum samples using an organic molecule 4-(3-hydroxyphenylazo)resorcinol, 4-HAR was developed. The paper presents the synthesis of 4-HAR, which serves as probe for definite species. 4-HAR was characterized with the FT-IR, UV-visible, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass analysis, thermal TG and DSC techniques. After examining its interactions with more than twenty five metal ions, it was found that 4-HAR showed reaction only with copper(II), giving a distinct green color at λmax 603 nm. Experimental conditions for the reaction of 4-HAR with copper(II) were optimized. A calibration curve was created and the exhibition range of concentration obeyed Beer's Law from 0.30 to 16 μg.mL-1 with correlation coefficient of r = 0.9986, and value of the molar absorption coefficient, ε, being 3314 L.mol- 1.cm-1. The analytical method was used to determine copper(II) levels in several blood serum samples. The amounts of copper(II) found in the sera samples were compared with flame atomic absorption spectrometry technique, and the results were found to be highly reliable. Based on validation, the new approach can be utilized for assurance quality purposes with a high degree of confidence.

Abstract

A modern development discusses the synthesis and validity of simple, sensitive, and versatile spectrophotometric methods for Bi(III) and Al(III) determination in pharmaceutical formulations have been conducted. In the present paper, 4-(4 acetamidophenylazo) pyrogallol has been synthesized as a new organic compound, 4-APAP, by coupling pyrogallol in a regulated pH medium with diazotized p-aminoacetanilide. 4-APAP was identified by methods of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and thermal analysis (thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry). Solvatochromic activity was also studied in solvents with different polarities. The Kamlet and Taft linear solvation energy relationship was used to correlate shifts in UV-Visible spectra of 4-APAP with Kamlet-Taft parameters (α, β, and π*). The optimum assay conditions showed linearity from 0.3-13 to 0.5-11 μg‧mL-1 for Bi(III) and Al(III), respectively. Molar absorptivity values were 3.365 × 104 and 0.356 × 104 L‧mol-1‧cm-1 for Bi(III) and Al(III), with similar Sandell’s sensitivity measures of 0.006 and 0.008 μg‧cm-2. Detection limits and quantification limits were 0.013 and 0.043 μg‧mL-1 for Bi(III), respectively, and 0.018 and 0.059 μg‧mL-1 for Al(III) with the relative standard deviation for determination of both metal ions using 4-APAP probe being <2.0%. The validity, accuracy, and efficiency of the approaches were demonstrated by the determination of Bi(III) and Al(III) in different formulations.

Solvent Effects on The Electronic Absorption Spectra of Thymol

AuthorsNaser A. Naser, Muhammad K. Musa, Ameer A. Hussein, and Zahraa K. Saleh
JournalThe Chemical Educator
Abstract

The electronic absorption spectra of thymol have been recorded and studied in various solvents of different polarities. Multiple linear regression technique was applied to calculate the regression and correlation coefficients based on an equation that relates the wavenumbers of the absorption band maxima (νmax) to the empirical Kamlet–Taft solvent parameters, π* (dipolarity/polarizability), β (solvent hydrogen-bond donor acidity) and α (solvent hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity). The regression fits obtained from this analysis allows estimating the contribution of each type of interactions relative to total spectral shifts in solution. The dependence of νmax on the solvent parameters indicates that the obtained bands are affected by specific and non-specific solute-solvent interactions.

Flow Injection Analysis: fixed-time kinetics methods

AuthorsBo KARLBERG, Gilbert E. PACEY and Naser A. NASER
JournalChemical Education Journal
Abstract

Reproducible timing in flow injection makes it unnecessary for both physical and chemical equilibrium to be attained in the processes involved. Reproducibility of results is largely and principally related to reproducible timing. On the other hand, the batch method and classical air-segmented continuous flow analyzers deal with the physical and chemical equilibrium processes in a similar manner. Consequently, they both require that steady state signals are used to obtain reproducible results.
