مختصر البحث

In recent times, the applications of numerical methods are gaining momentum to carry out critical analysis to identify electrical energy and related emission saving potential on real-time application. The chosen specific area of the current work is the simulation of compressed airflow through pipes. The pressure gradient across compressed air pipe junction was simulated, and the result showed that the minimum pressure drop occurs when a branch line is taken at an angle of 46° with horizontal from the main pipe against the conventional T branch. In case of elbow, 150-mm fillet radius gave minimum pressure drop against 90° elbow. The CFD analysis carried out on T and elbow of compressed air pipe network with various inlet air pressures of 4 × 10 5, 6 × 10 5, and 8 × 10 5 Pa showed that a no. of redesigned junction geometry, which is 5000, can reduce compressor electricity consumption by 127.14 MWh per annum and CO 2 emission by 37.31 t per annum.

مختصر البحث

Preheaters are used industrial dry kiln cement production plants to heat the raw mix and drive off carbon dioxide and water before it is fed into the kiln. An analytical model of a generalized four-stage suspension cyclone preheater system is presented. This model was used to study the influence of waste preheater gas and dust bypass systems on preheater performance and efficiency. As the bypass size (percentage) was varied, the heat content of the bypass gas was calculated for different constant calcination degrees. The results showed that the heat content, respectively for each cyclone (I, II, III, and IV), is: 542.0, 801.9, 1034.3 and 1192.7 kJ for a calcination degree of 90% and bypass percentage of 40% bypass. Changing the calcination degree to 50% and bypass percentage to 40% resulted in gas heats of: 541.4, 801.0, 1033.2 and 1191.5 kJ, respectively for each cyclone. These results show that the calcination degree is inversely proportional to the heat content of waste preheater bypass gases. While increasing of bypass opening at constant the amount of dust kiln gas will cause decreasing of waste heat content of kiln gases.

مختصر البحث

Waste heat sources in the cement plant comprise the exit gases from the pre-heater and the ejection hot air from clinker cooler. And for cogeneration power, these sources which have diverse level of temperature can be used separately or in combination. This paper aims to show the waste heat recovery significance in the clinker cooling system of cement industry. Unlike the usual process of waste heat recovery, the pipe was inserting within grate cooler to absorb a portion of the heat losses. Fluids such as water, engine oil and ethylene glycol are the fluids of conventional heat transfer and these fluids are widely used in diverse applications in the industry. It is well known that the great potential of improvement of heat transfer comes from suspended solid particles of micro size in the base fluid Cu nanoparticles at different base fluids as a working fluid were used in the recovery cycle. Engine oil indicates the best outcome of energy saving, emission reductions and cost saving among the base fluids.

مختصر البحث

In reality, cement industry is a highly imperative segment in the industrial field that plays a substantial role in the socio-economic evolution. Up to now, approximately 40% of the waste heat energy from cement plants is released into the atmosphere without being used effectively. The mechanism to recover the unused heat depends on the temperature of the waste heat gases and the economics involved. The waste heats can be classified as waste heats of middle and low temperatures. Some available power plants are suitable to recover the waste heats.

مختصر البحث

As energy becomes more expensive, and the ramifications of wasting it become more evident via climate change, the recovery of waste heat is becoming more important. Waste heat is produced in many industrial processes. Most energy conversion processes involve the production of heat as a by-product, which is usually wasted. The waste heat recovery in the system from the high temperature gases can be taken into account as a potential option to enhance the process efficiency of energy in industry. By using the recovery systems, waste heat can be captured, whereas the efficiency values of energy and exergy can be developed will provide the interrogators with knowledge about how effectually and competently a sector utilizes its resources of energy. Large quantities of hot flue gases are generated from boilers, kilns, ovens and furnaces. If some of the waste heat could be recovered then a considerable amount of primary fuel could be saved. The energy lost in waste gases cannot be fully recovered. The essential fact is not the amount of heat, but rather its “value”. The mechanism to recover the unused heat depends on the temperature of the waste heat gases and the economics involved. The waste heats can be classified as waste heats of middle and low temperatures. Some available power plants are suitable to recover the waste heats.

Grate coolers are widely used in cement industries to recover heat from hot clinker, coming out from the rotary kiln. This study focuses on improving the energy, exergy and recovery efficiencies of a grate cooling system through the optimization of its operational parameters such as masses of cooling air and clinker, cooling air temperature, and grate speed. It has been found that the energy and recovery energy efficiencies of a cooling system can be increased by 1.1% and 1.9%, respectively, with every 5% mass increases of cooling air. Similarly, it has been estimated that energy and recovery energy efficiencies can be increased by 2.0% and 0.4% with every 5% increase of cooling temperature. The exergy and its recovery efficiencies found to be increased by 3.6% and 2.2%, respectively, for the same condition. Energy efficiency and energy recovery efficiencies are increased by 3.5% and 1.4% with every 9.1% increase of grate speed. Using heat recovery from the exhaust air, energy and exergy recovery efficiencies of the cooling system found to be increased by 21.5% and 9.4%, respectively. It has been found that about 38.10% and 30.86% energy cost can be saved by changing mass flow rate of clinker and mass flow rate of cooling air, respectively.

Cement production has been one of the most energy intensive industries in the world with energy typically accounting about 30–40% of the production costs. Reduction of the production cost is very much important. Therefore, many studies on the efficient use of energy were carried out in the past. Moreover, these studies, which are based on exergy analysis, focus on industrial applications only. This paper reviewed exergy analysis, exergy balance, and exergetic efficiencies for cement industry. It is found that the exergy efficiency for cement production units ranges from 18% to 49% as well as the exergy losses due to the irreversibility from kiln are higher than other units in cement production plant.

In reality, cement industry is a highly imperative segment in the industrial field that plays a substantial role in the socio-economic evolution. Up to now, approximately 40% of the waste heat energy from cement plants is released into the atmosphere without being used effectively. This work emphasizes the ability to recover the heat losses via convection and radiation in a grate cooler using new methods by utilizing these waste heats to heat the working fluid of a cogeneration cycle directly and indirectly. On the other hand, the recovery cycle was added with different four working fluids (water, nanofluid (Al- water), oil and air) to recover the waste heat and to heat the working fluid of cogeneration cycle. The energy efficiency of the first method was approximately 26% and it represented better than the second method. On the other hand, the exergy efficiency of second method with oil as a working fluid was the highest. The first method gave the best results in terms of energy and cost savings. Finally, the emission reduction of CO2 in the first method was 5053.55t CO2/year.
