مختصر البحثstructure of theoretical models set was suggested to predict the elastic moduli of polyurethane copolymer (PUC)/organic
modified montmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposites (NCs) in terms of length (L) to thickness (t) ratio and volume fraction (Vf) of
OMMT nanoparticles. The predicted elastic modulus outcomes of PUC/OMMT NCs were compared with experiment data. The
outcome demonstrated that the suggested aspect ratio of predicted elastic modulus decreased with increased Vf of OMMT compared
to experimental data. The largest value of effective aspect ratio belonged to the HuiShia model over all OMMT Vf . The modified
HalpinTsai model incorporated with the factor for decreasing modulus (FFDM) recorded the lowest range of percentage error
between theoretical and experimental data around 0.3850.816% at Vf < 0:125 (4 wt.%) OMMT.

مختصر البحثImproving the performance of polyurethane is a crucial endeavor due to its
versatile properties that make it suitable for various uses, especially as a matrix
in the field of composite materials. The current work investigates the influence
of the addition of two types of graphene derivatives, graphene oxide (GO) and
reduced graphene oxide (rGO), to hard copolymer polyurethane (HCPU).
HCPUs as nanocomposites were synthesized using melt-mixing approaches
with different weight ratios of nanofiller additives. The transmission electron
microscopy and scanning electron microscopy displayed the morphology
through the incorporation of nanofillers within the HCPU structure. Thermogravimetric
analysis (TGA) testing showed an increase in the thermal stability
of HCPU with the addition of GO and rGO. Herein, the overall HCPU crystallinity/
microphase separation decreased after the addition of GO and rGO compared
to unfilled HCPU samples. The thermal stability test showed significant
enhancement with increasing GO and rGO incorporated weight ratio due to
the barrier and tortuous path effects of nanofillers. A clear increase in thermal
and electrical conductivity is found, in particular at greater content of addition
(5 wt%) of rGO in comparison with neat HCPU. The rheological behavior
showed that the storage modulus of HCPU nanocomposites increased from
that of pure HCPU, proving the formation of a filler-polymer network interaction
within the HCPU chain structure. Dispersion and physical and/or chemical
interaction of the GO and rGO within polyurethane chains plays a major
role in enhancing the morphology and thermal and rheological properties, and
thus represents a significant improvement for the final properties of HCPU
nanocomposites.

مختصر البحثThe current work investigates the effect of the addition of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs)
and graphene oxide (GO) to high hard-segment polyurethane (75% HS) on its thermal, morphological,
and mechanical properties. Polyurethane (PU) and its nanocomposites were prepared with
different ratios of GNP and GO (0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 wt. %). A thermal stability analysis demonstrated
an enhancement in the thermal stability of PU with GNP and GO incorporated compared to
pure PU. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) showed that both GNP and GO act as heterogeneous
nucleation agents within a PU matrix, leading to an increase in the crystallinity of PU. The
uniform dispersion and distribution of GNP and GO flakes in the PU matrix were confirmed by
SEM and TEM. In terms of the mechanical properties of the PU nanocomposites, it was found that
the interaction between PU and GO was better than that of GNP due to the functional groups on
the GO’s surface. This leads to a significant increase in tensile strength for 0.5 wt. % GNP and GO
compared with pure PU. This can be attributed to interfacial interaction between the GO and PU
chains, resulting in an improvement in stress transferring from the matrix to the filler and vice
versa. This work sheds light on the understanding of the interactions between graphene-based
fillers and their influence on the mechanical properties of PU nanocomposites.
Enhanced mechanical, crystallisation and thermal properties
of graphene flake‑filled polyurethane nanocomposites: the impact
of thermal treatment on the resulting microphase‑separated structure

مختصر البحثThe present work investigates the combined effect of the addition of graphite nanoplatelets (xGNPs) to polyurethane copolymer (PUC) and thermal treatment was employed. The PUC reinforced by xGNP were synthesized by in-situ polymerisation, which leads to an effective performance of the PUC/xGNP system. Meanwhile, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy tests displayed the inter-spacing planar quality of xGNP nanofillers. The thermal stability of PUC was seen to increase with addition of xGNP. Additionally, the dynamic storage modulus (Eʹ) showed better performance after thermal treatment than in the untreated samples. However, a relationship between the microphase-separated morphology of PUC induced by thermal treatment and the addition of xGNP has been observed. Consequently, the crystallinity percentage increased after thermal treatment @ 80 ˚C for 4 days, presuming a re-ordering of amorphous hard segments during the heating in a packed microphase conformation. On the other hand, better dispersion and interaction of xGNP can play a crucial role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical properties, and thus a significant reinforcement for PUC. The tensile properties such as modulus and tensile strength showed significant enhancement with xGNP incorporation, while the elongation steeply dropped.
