Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder and the main cause of infertility due to anovulation among reproductive-aged women. fetal programming is the beginning of the insulin resistance (IR) and hyperandrogenism which leads to a chain of health consequences. The disturbances in menstruation and fertility develop metabolic complications as age advances. An early and precise diagnosis is necessary for a satisfactory management of PCOS, especially at the extreme ends of the reproductive lifespan. In the present study, IR, hormones and irregularity was studied in PCOS and compared with the control groups. Sixty PCOS women and thirty apparently healthy women were participated in the present study. Serum Fasting serum glucose and sugar, prolactine, progesterone, Cortisol, LH, FSH, estradiol, total & Free testosterone were determined in all women’s. In PCOS women (IR-PCOS) had more obesity comparing with (non IR-PCOS). HOMA%B and insulin were increased while HOMA%S decreased in IR-PCOS patients in comparing with (non-IR-PCOS). The IR-PCOS patients had higher LH/FSH, and BMI and lower FSH than Non IR-PCOS. Serum (Insulin, HOMA%B, LH, LH/FSH) significantly increased in IR-PCOS patients, while serum (FSH, HOMA S%) levels were decreased as compared with non IR-PCOS. Furthermore, IR-PCOS patients had higher PRG, Cortisol, E2, PRL and lower free Testosterone and total Testosterone. In Iraqi women with PCOS, IR state is increased as women having irregular menstruation or hyperandrogenism. Also, PCOS has many changes in hormones and other measured parameters duo to the metabolic bases of the syndrome.

Abstract

The effect of the adsorption process on electrical conductivity, equivalent conductivity, ionization constant and dissociation degree was studied to Di hydroxy benzoic acid with different concentrations by using natural surfaces (Hazelnut peel and walnut peel ). The results refers to decrease electrical conductivity after acid adsorption on both surfaces. The effect of acid concentration on the degree of disintegration and the ionization constant was also studied.

Abstract

ββ β-thalassemiamajor (ββ β-TM) is an acute hereditary blood disorder that causes many disorders such as bone dysfunction. Sixty five ββ β-TMpatients with ββ β-thalassemia main exposure to blood transfusion with hypodermis iron chelation treatment and 25 healthful persons of the selfsame age were recorded in our research. Serum Parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D3 (Vit. D), calcium, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and inorganic phosphorus (Pi) and magnesium levels were determined in all persons . In ββ β-TM patients serum PTH, ALP , Pi and magnesium significantly increased while serum Vit. D and calcium levels were decreased as compared with healthful persons.

Abstract

Hepatitis C virus is one of the most dangerous and contagious diseases, as its danger lies in the absence of obvious symptoms at the beginning of the infection. Over time, some signs may appear, such as yellowing of the skin , eyes and abdominal pain, but in advanced cases, it may lead to cirrhosis of the liver and may lead to death. The current study aims to know the extent of liver damage to infection with the virus by measuring some biochemical variables such as direct, indirect and total bilirubin, and on the other hand, measuring interleukin-28b to determine the extent of the immune response, The results showed a significant increase in direct and total bilirubin, as well as a significant increase in the concentration of Interleukin-28 b

Serum T.Ca, PO4=, Mg+2, Na+ and K+ in T2DM Patient

Abstract

In Iraq, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) ranged about 1.4 million which is nearly 8.5%. The patients with diabetes are commonly caused by electrolyte disorders such as calcium ion (Ca+2), phosphate (PO4 = ), magnesium (Mg+2), sodium (Na+ ) and potassium (K+ ). Sixty-five patients participated in this study. Their ages ranged between 45-60 years and the mean of BMI to patients 23.55±4.56. The mean of random blood glucose (RBG) and HbA1c was 288.42±68.63 mg/dl, 9.08±1.9%, respectively. In contrast, apparently 30 people were selected as a control group. Their age range was comparable to that of patients and the mean of BMI equal 22.94±3.15. The mean of RBG and HbA1c was 101.9±11.18 mg/dl and 5.03±0.63%, respectively. Five electrolytes were measured [serum total calcium (T.Ca), PO4 = , Mg+2 , Na+ and K+ ] by spectrophotometer methods. There was a significant increase in serum T.Ca, PO4 = and K+ in diabetes patients, while no significant difference in Mg+2 and Na+ with healthy group. Increased serum T.Ca formed Ca+2- channels disorder or kidney diseases and metabolic disorders caused defect in serum T.Ca and PO4 = . The insulin deficiency and healthy diet increased serum K+ , finally uncontrolled blood glucose affecting many tissues and organs that affect electrolytes level.

Abstract

Numerous research projects have discovered how trace elements affect people with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Thus, understanding the mechanism of action and the potential treatment options requires research into the chemical compounds that have an impact on the kidneys. Trace elements are components of metalloproteins and act as cofactors for numerous essential enzymes. Among the most important trace elements that affect renal function are zinc and copper. The newly published papers on changes in the effects of both trace element products in ESRD patients were studied, and the justifications gathered from earlier studies were compiled. This review’s findings suggest that changes in trace element levels worsen ESRD patients’ health condition by deepening kidney dysfunction, which has a negative impact on their health. The mechanism by which these effects occur is reviewed, and schemes were plotted in order to show a comprehensive view of the role of dysregulation of copper and zinc in ESRD patients.

Alterations in trace elements and cation profiles in transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients

Abstract

Background: Transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) is a severe form of beta-thalassemia, characterized by defective-globin production, resulting in a buildup of unpaired alpha globin chains. Patients with TDT can only survive if they receive safe blood transfusions regularly, which causes iron overload in their blood, which causes a variety of disorders. Cations and trace elements in TDT patients as a drug target deserve more studies. Objectives: In the present study, the cations and some trace elements were studied in TDT patients as a tool to adjust their level in the case of any disturbances. Methods: Serum calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, and iron were measured spectrophotometrically while manganese and cobalt were measured by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy in 100 TDT patients and compared with 35 healthy control children. Results: Patients with TDT exhibit a notable elevation in blood levels of iron, copper, copper/zinc ratio, and manganese, with a substantial reduction in serum levels of zinc, magnesium, calcium, and cobalt, as compared to the control group. These minerals have diverse associations with clinical data and transfusion frequencies. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis revealed that the elevated levels of iron, manganese, and calcium exhibit the greatest diagnostic capability, with a sensitivity and specificity of over 80 %, and a Youdin’s J value of more than 0.6. Conclusion: The levels of cations and trace elements are disturbed in TDT patients. Hence, the monitoring and adjustment of the level of these minerals are important to prevent further consequences
