ABSTRACT The protective effect of turmeric (Curcuma longa) extract against oxidative stress induced by lithium carbonate (Li2CO3). The project was carried out on thirty male rats divided into five groups each group has six rats. The first group saved as normal control was administrated normal saline only, the second and third groups were received merely at dose 5, 10 mg/kg for induction of oxidative state on rats, While the fourth group was received lithium carbonate at dose 5 mg/kg with turmeric extract at dose 0.5 g for 500 g of dietand the fifth group wasreceived lithium carbonate at dose 10 mg/kg with turmeric extract at dose 0.5 g for 500 g of diet. The results appeared after administration of the phenolic extract of turmeric in rats has oxidative stress via Li2CO3elevated the testes weight, epididymis weight, with raised sperm motility, sperm count, sperm viability, testosterone level, luteinizing hormone level, follicle stimulating hormone level, at the same time, the results demonstrated decreased the sperm abnormality. Conclusively: treatment by turmericextract was produce enhancing role toward oxidative stress induced via Li2CO3 in the rats. Keywords: Oxidative stress, Curcuma longa, Li2CO3, Male fertility, Rat.

Abstract— The protective effect of Leek (Allium ampeloprasum) extract against testicular toxicity induced by carbon tetrachloride CCL4 was studied. The experiment was conducted on 36 male rats distributed randomly into 6 groups of 6 animals: group (1) was kept as a normal control which received distilled water; rats of groups (2) and (3) were given only Leek extract only in a dose 200 and 400 mg/kg; and groups (4,5,6) received CCL4 at a concentration of 1 ml/L by oral administration for induction of toxicity on rats. Groups 5 and 6 received Leek extract 200 and 400 mg/kg with CCL4 respectively. Results showed that oral administration of Leek extract in rats with testicular toxicity by CCL4 increased the weight of testes and accessory genital glands, sperm motility, count and viability, serum testosterone, luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. It could be concluded that treatment with Leek extract produced a protective effect against toxicity induced by CCL4 in the male rats. Index Terms— Allium ampeloprasum, CCL4, Male fertility, Rat, .

Effect of Prazosin Hydrochloride in Reproductive performance of Albino Male Rats

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate side effects of prazosin hydrochloride in fertility of male rats. Study groups were received orally graded dose of the prazosin hydrochloride (20,40, 80) mg/kg for 8-weeks, after end experimental, the treated group show significant decrement in testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels and decrement in sperm count. Also it causes decreased in follicle stimulating hormone level and testicular morphology, Sperm viability and motility. the body weight was decreased in the treated groups compare with control group, and decrease in weight of the tests, seminal vesicles and prostate gland compare with control group. The present study concluded that the prazosin hydrochloride possessed as anti-androgenic and anti spermatogenic affects. Key words: prazosin hydrochloride, FSH, LH. Sperm, Testosterone. Introduction Alpha blockers considered as one of the most used therapies for treated chronic hypertensive, it used being at early of 1970, phesition reported that patients might benefit from treatment with this drug (Lee et al., 2008). The mechanism action of the hypotensive Prazosin hydrochloride is unknown, some investigators reported that it causes decrement in total peripheral resistance and vascular smooth muscle relaxation , a study suggested that the vasodilator effect of prazosin associated to postsynaptic alpha-adrenoceptors blockad ( Frishman and Jorde , 2000). Prazosin hydrochloride is metabolizing by cytochrome p 450 enzyme which eliminated in urine about 10% ( Hellstrom and Sikka, 2007; Brophy et al., 2010). Antihypertensive drugs can be used to lower blood pressure (BP). the mechanisms of lowering BP are differentiated from one to other. it can be explanation by the antihypertensive action basis to the following classes; agents of alpha-receptor blocking, agents of beta-receptor blocking, the blockers of calcium channel, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists and diuretics (Nobile et al., 1997; Neal et al., 2000). Another study proposed the alfa 1-anderoreceptore closed as effective anti-fertility in male rats. As well as, the anti-fertility effect is related with enhancement in ejaculatory ( Moffat et al., 2005 ) . Prazosin and Tamsulosin interfered with seminal emission in the tail of epididymis cause sperm retention. Also these drugs can either decrease vaginal sperm numbers or cause infertility of an ejaculation (Robaire and Orgebin ,2006). In current study, we attempt to investigate the role of Prazosin hydrochloride on the fertility of albino male rats in terms of sperm motility, number and the morphological changes, testes structure and level of testosterone. Materials and methods About 40 male rats weighting ( 300-345) g were used in present study, they housed in a plastic caged under standard environment condition( temperature 22-25 ºC and 12 hr., light-dark cycle) and allowed access to standard laboratory water and feed. They were divided in to four groups (10) animals for each group. The Prazosin was obtained from (Pfizer lab, Germany) the Prazosin hydrochloride dose (20, 40, 80 mg/kg) were prepared by dissolving (1) gram from Prazosin in (10) ml from distill

ABSTRACT: The objective of the present study was to compare the beneficial effects of vitamins C and E on Lincomycin-induced hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Sixteen of male albino rats sexually matured were randomly divided into four groups: (i) control, (ii) Lincomycin (500 mg/kg) administrated orally, (iii) Lincomycin plus vitamin C (500 mg/kg) and vitamin E (400 mg/kg), (iv) vitamin C plus vitamin E were administrated orally at the same doses of third group. Lincomycin treatments were started directly (1) day after the first administrations of these vitamins and continued for (21) days. At the end of the experiments: body weight, liver, kidney and spleen relative weights, erythrocytes sedimentation rate, urea, total bilirubin, creatinine, malondialdehyde, glutathione, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoproteins, liver enzyme activities ALP, AST and ALP were significantly increased (p <0.05) in Lincomycin treated group, while haemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, white blood cell counts, high density lipoproteins were significantly decreased (p <0.05) in the same group when compared with the three other groups: control , vitamins ,Lincomycin and vitamins groups. Vitamins C and vitamin E were suppressed the oxidative stress of Lincomycin which used in this study, so the data of the present study suggest that, vitamin C and vitamin E could be useful for reducing the detrimental effects of Lincomycin-induced toxicity on liver and kidneys.
