New Azo-Schiff Compounds and Metal Complexes Derived from 2-Naphthol Synthesis, Characterization, Spectrophotometric, and Study of Biological Activity

AuthorsHawraa Mahdi Farhan, Ali Mahdi Farhan Nuha Salman Salh Ahmed Abduljabbar Jaloob Aljanaby
JournalCurrent Applied Science and Technology
Abstract

This research involved synthesizing two compounds as derivatives of 2-naphthol by the classical method. The azo coupling compound was prepared via diazonium salt of 4-amino acetophenone followed by 2-naphthole. The azo-Schiff molecule was synthesized through condensation of an azo compound with 5-amino salicylic acid in an acidic medium. Using spectrum approaches, the new compounds are characterized (13C-NMR, 1H-NMR, FT-IR). The acid-base characteristics were investigated at various pH levels (0.67-12), and the ionization and protonation constants were determined. Spectroscopic methods were used to identify new copper (II), nickel (II), and cobalt (II) complexes of the azo-Schiff base ligand. All the compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative bacteria). It was found that the coordination complexes of Cu and Co had an antibacterial effect on both concentrations against Staphylococcus aureus.

Spectrophotometric Determination of Zn(II) in Pharmaceutical Formulation Using a New Azo Reagent as Derivative of 2-Naphthol

Abstract

For the fast investigation of Zn(II) using 2-hydroxy-5-(2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl) diazenyl benzoic acid, a specific novel spectrophotometric technique is suggested in this research. The interaction of the azo reagent with Zn(II) is instantaneous at pH 7, and the absorbance of the solution is stable for more than 24 h. The technique allows zinc levels of 1-18 ppm to be calculated, with a molar absorption of 1.516 x104 l mol-1 cm-1. The suggested method for estimating zinc has been widely applied in many pharmaceutical formulations. The error of the determination does not exceed 4%.

Abstract

Abstract- The study was conducted to evaluate physiochemical properties of dates syrup samples which selected from some middle cities of Iraq. Various physiochemical properties of dates syrup were analyzed and compared tosome producing countries of date syrup (molasses).. Dates syrup quality and determination of Viscosity , Density, Specificgravity , Refraction index, Conductivity and Acidity. Statistical analysis of data revealed that there is no significant difference between results of collected samples and compared the results obtained with some producing countries which implies good quality dates syrup.

Synthesis, Characterization and (Chemical, Spectral, Antimicrobial) Studies of New Inorganic Ligands

AuthorsHawraa Mehdi Farhan
JournalJournal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Abstract

New three inorganic ligands were synthesized in this work, which was bearing anil group and azo group in their structure, our paper involved, synthesis of three ligands by diazotation reaction and condensation reaction of anil compounds to yield three new ligands (L1, L2, L3) and investigation with several chemical and spectral studies. All inorganic ligands were identified by using (TLC) and techniques (Uv.Visible, FT.IR, 1H.NMR, Chromatography Analysis, thermal Analysis), then studying (biological activity studying, chromatography behavior, studying of physical characterization and other analytical studies like solubility in various solvents).

Preparation and investigation of complexes (bisazo)- imidazole with Co(II) and Cu(II)

AuthorsHawraa Mehdi Farhan
JournalWorld Journal of Medicine and Medical Science Research
Abstract

In this study, transition metal complexes of Co(II) and Cu(II) with a newbisazo dye (2-(4- methoxy-2-(4- methoxy phenyl)diazenyl)phenyl)diazenyl)-4,5-diphenylimidazole were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, electronic data, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HMBC, HQSY and molar conductivity measurements. It has been found that the bisazo ligand behaves as tridentate (N,N',N") donor ligand forming chelates with (1:2) (metal: ligand) stoichiometry.

Abstract

A new azo compound 3 [2-((4-hydroxy-3-(E)-(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)diazenyl)benzaldehyde] and the azo-Schiff de- rivative 4 [2-((4-hydroxy-3-((E)-(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)diazenyl)benzylidene)amino)-4-nitrophenol[ (azo-Schiff 4) have been synthesized. 13C-NMR, 1H-NMR, FT-IR, mass spectroscopy and UV-Vis analysis was used to characterized new compounds. The new synthesized compound azo-Schiff 4 was utilized to inhibit mild steel (MS) corrosion at little concentrations (0.001–0.006 M). Weight loss measurements studies in 1 M HCl and at 298 K showed that azo-Schiff 4 has a good corrosion inhibition efficiency, 75% at 0.002 M of inhibitors. It was found that adsorption methods follow Lang- muir isotherm with ΔG values around –23.8 kJ/mol; this confirms that a stable protective film is formed spontaneously during physical adsorption on the mild steel.
