Background:The current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, has posed a significant public health concern throughout the world, putting millions of people at risk in an increasing number of nations.Due to the development of endothelial dysfunction, coagulopathy, cytokine storm, and plaque instability, COVID-19 is recognized as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular illnesses. The goal of this study was to look at blood levels of interleukin 6 (IL-6), lipid profiles, ferritin, C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, lymphocytes, and neutrophils in COVID-19 patients, as well as the relationship between IL-6 and biochemical predictor values for COVID-19 severity. Materials andMethods: In this case-control study, total of 60 COVID 19 patients within 1 week of displaying COVID19 symptoms and SARS-CoV-2 specific RT-PCR was verified. of Nasopharyngeal (NP) swab specimen were recruited.ageranged between(30-50 years)To compare the results, (60) apparently healthy persons of the same ages and sexes were included in this study ascontrol group. All of the patents and healthy persons were made to suffer to the estimation of serume IL-6, D-Dimer, CRP, ferritin, lipid profiles, andanthropometric data were analyzed. Results:Serum IL-6 level was higher in covid-19 patients group compared to healthy control group (812.32± 147.76vs. 148.95± 51.59ng/ mLp = 0.0001). Ferritin,CRP, and D-dimer serum levels were also higher in covid-19 patients compared to control group (p = 0.0001). as well as TC,LDL-C,and VLDL-C When compared to healthy controls, COVID-19 patients exhibited a substantial reduction in the levels studied in this study. We also discovered that IL-6 levels were higher significantly associated with the serum ferritin,D-dimer,TC, LDL-C, and CRP levels. Conclusion:The level of IL-6 was shown to be the most important predictor of outcome and a useful tool for prognostic assessment. The prevalence of atherogenic dyslipidaemia during infection was linked to a poorer COVID- 19 infection outcome in a robust and independent way. Low HDL cholesterol and high triglyceride levels seen in covid-19 patients are strong indicators of the disease's severity.

Background and aim: Thyroid cancer is the most frequent endocrine cancer on the world. This malignancy accounts for 1.3 percent of all cancers and accounts for roughly 0.5 percent of cancer-related deaths worldwide each year. Midkine are implicated in the spread of cancer and orchestrate development, cell survival, neural expansion, and inflammation. Its expression is confined to the kidney, lung, thyroid, and small intestine in healthy adult tissue. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the Serum Midkine in patients with newly diagnosed thyroid cancer, and to identify any correlation with biochemical parameters studied. Materials and methods: A case-control study design involved 120 Iraqi subjects, 60 of whom had thyroid cancer (48 females and 12 males) to compare the results with 60 healthy adults (50 females and 10 males) whose ages were close to the group of patients ranging from (27-60) years. All subjects' serum levels of Midkine, as well as metabolic indices such as BMI, WHR, (TT3, TT4, TSH), FSG, HOMA-IR, Insulin, QUICKI, C, TG, HDL-C, VLDL-C, LDL-C, and zinc, were measured. The findings were subjected to statistical analysis in order to analyze the differences between the gr5oups tested and to determine the relationship between parameters studied. Results: According to the statistical analysis, there was no significant difference in mean age between the patients and the control groups. Serum MDK was significantly elevated in thyroid cancer group compared to healthy control groups (202.1 ± 47.4 versus 149.6 ± 41.0 ng/mL, P=0.003), respectively. Serum BMI, TSH, FSG, insulin, HOMA-IR, TC and TG level for thyroid cancer group was significantly higher than healthy control group. However, as compared to the control group, the mean levels of HDL-C, Zinc and QUICKI shown a significant decreased in thyroid cancer group. No significant association was found between Midkine and either biochemical parameters studied, except BMI, TSH, insulin and HOMA-IR have a significant positive correlation with Midkine level. Conclusion: The current investigation found that thyroid cancer patients had considerably higher levels of Midkine than the control group. These results suggest that Midkine may act as a biochemical marker for the early detection and diagnosis of the thyroid cancer. Hypothyroidism is a disease that is characterized by abnormally low thyroid hormone production and excretion by the thyroid gland T3 , T4 ,these Hormones regulate the body's metabolism, Angiopoietin-like peptide-8 is a glycoprotein-structured adipokine synthesized in adipose tissue and the liver. It paly a role in energy metabolism by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase, the key enzyme in the hydrolysis of plasma lipoproteins. Also , thyroid hormones play an important role in energy metabolism, therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore serum Angptl8 and its correlation with lipid profile and insulin resistance in hypothyroidism patients . A case control study comprised of 90 eligible participants were included and divided into three groups including (overt hypothyroidism group = 32 ),( subclinical hypothyroidism group =28 ), ( healthy group = 30 ). were age-matched to the patient . ranged from (20 – 50 yrs.) Also , included females, with 55.5% of the participants being female and 44.5% of the participants being male. To if serum ANGPTL8 levels were significantly higher in patients with overt and subclinical hypothyroidism compared with control group. The level of ANGPTL8 is an indicator risk of hypothyroidism when the level of ANGPTL8 rises, patients experience hypothyroidism complications. The study's findings The means levels of the BMI, serum TSH, FSG, Insulin, TG, cholesterol, VLDL-C, LDL-C, and Angptl 8 and HOMA- IR were significantly higher in all hypothyroidism patients group , except in a sub clinical group HOMA-β have a non-significantly when compared with healthy control group .while The means levels serum of the T3 , T4 , TG, Tc, and Angptl 8 were higher significantly in overt hypothyroidism when compared with subclinical hypothyroidism as shown in in table ( 1 ) , In overt hypothyroidism angiopoietin like 8 significant positive correlation with BML , TSH ,FSG ,insulin , HOMA IR , TC , LDL , VLDL and TG As وfor negative correlation HOMA-β and HDL. while In sub clinical hypothyroidism angiopoietin like 8 significant (positive )correlation with FSG , TG ,T4 , LDL -C, and VLDL _Cو ,As for significant negative correlation with HDL. Conclusion : serum circulating ANGPTL8 levels are increased in patients with hypothyroidism and associated with change in lipids profile and HOMA-IR. the elevated levels of ANGPTL8 in hypothyroidism especially in subclinical hypothyroidism patients high light their potential involvement , their potential role as predicator marker for metabolic disorder ,T2DM their role in regulating the activity of lipoprotein lipase , a key enzyme in metabolism of lipoprotein .

Eng., 2018, Vol. 10, Iss. 4 Effect of Human MTHFR Gene Polymorphisms in Morbidly Obese Population on Elevate Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Abstract In this paper, based on the association of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) with type 2 diabetes (T2D), we evaluated the association of polymorphism with morbidly obesity on risk type 2 diabetes. A case-control study of 74 health morbidly obese and 76 healthy non-obese was conducted in Iraq. MTHFR (C677T, A1298C and G1793A) genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The study revealed a significant association between cytidine/thymine (CT) genotype of C677T and morbid obesity (odds ratio (OR): 1.26, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.91-1.60, probability (P) = 0.0003), but did not show any significant association in thymine/thymine (TT) genotype (OR: 0.258, 95% CI: 0.88-1.60, P = 0.082). On the other hand the second single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) A1298C showed highly significant association in adenine/adenine (AA) genotype (OR: 1.39, 95% CI: 0.91-1.58, P = 0.0001) and significant association between adenine/cytidine (AC) and cytidine/cytidine (CC) genotypes (OR: 0.702, 95% CI: 0.88-1.61, P = 0.0377), (OR: 0.844, 95% CI: 0.91-1.59, P = 0.0273), respectively, but showed no significant relation in three types of normal homozygous, heterozygous and rare homozygous in MTHFR-G1793A. The results suggested that A1298C substitution might pose a direct effect on being type 2 diabetes in morbidly obese patients, and C677T had moderate effect, while G1793A had no effect. However, further case-control studies are required to provide a more robust conclusion.

: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinological disorder and the leading cause of infertility in the women of reproductive age, presenting a wide range of clinical manifestations. Deficiency of 25- OH vitamin D may have a role in PCOS etiopathogenesis and its endocrine and metabolic disregulations. PCOS is underpinned by insulin resistance (IR). Therefore, the aim of presented study was to explore serum 25- OH vitamin D status and its correlation with insulin resistance (IR) in women with PCOS. A case-control study, comprised of 60 newly diagnosed PCOS women with using the Rotterdam criteria and 60 healthy control women were matched with patients age and body mass index (BMI). Patients with past use of hormone therapy and insulin sensitizers or patients with chronic diseases were excluded. Fasting blood samples were analyzed for vitamin D, endocrine and metabolic biomarkers. The results were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. The result showed that 25-(OH) vitamin D levels were highly significant lower (P< 0.001) in women with PCOS group than in the control group (16.76±4.52 vs 21.89±4.10 ng/ml, respectively). Furthermore, the result showed that 25-(OH) vitamin D levels were negatively correlated (P< 0.001) with fasting insulin (r= - 0.513) and HOMA-IR (r = - 0.465) and positively correlated (P < 0.001) with HDL Cholesterol (r = 0.336). The presented study demonstrated that 25-(OH) vitamin D was highly significant lower in women with PCOS than in the control and an inverse significant association between vitamin D levels and fasting insulin and HOMA-IR in PCOS.
