Abstract

Thymidine phosphorylase (TP) is known to be correlated with the pathogenesis of solid tumors. IL-6 is overexpressed in osteosarcoma, and data exist showing that high concentrations of IL-6 are linked to a poor prognosis. The aim of this study is to investigate the diagnostic role of thymidine phosphorylase and IL-6 in the pathogenesis and progression in patients with osteosarcoma.

Abstract

Lactoferrin is a multi-iron binding functional glycoprotein with significant clinical applications in the treatment ofinfectious diseases, inflammatory disorders, cancer, neonatology, and metabolic conditions. Its normal functioninvolves high affinity iron sequestration complementary direct microbial membrane interactions making it animportant part of the innate immune system. Clinically proven effective in lactoferrin supplementation to reduceneonatal infections on sepsis as well as necrotizing enterocolitis; this will be a promising prophylactic approach forpreterm infants. Its antiviral activity broadens even more its therapeutic potency regarding emerging viral infectionsincluding some preliminary applications on COVID-19. It is reported that the immunomodulatory lactoferrin regulatesboth processes by controlling cytokine production and cell function. Fecal lactoferrin is an easy-to-apply inflammationmarker within the intestines for inflammatory bowel disease besides being helpful in monitoring how well treatmentis working. Apart from these functions, lactoferrin can exert anticancer activity via antiproliferative, pro-apoptotic aswell as anti-angiogenic mechanisms. Newer evidences also support its application as an adjuvant in cancer therapy.Additionally, lactoferrin has a role in neonate development through gut maturation plus immune system education.Disorder management, especially metabolic, cardiovascular, and diabetic related disorders, seems to be wherelactoferrin aces it by modulating iron homeostasis plus reducing oxidative stress. The challenges of the bioavailabilityand standardized preparations of lactoferrin limit the therapeutic promise it holds. Further advances in deliverytechnologies, together with expanded clinical trials, are needed to optimize its use (PDF) Biochemistry, Pathophysiology and Clinical Significance of Lactoferrin: A Review Article. The Role of Salivary Biomarkers in Early Detection of Oral Precancerous Lesions

Authorsغفران سلمان عبد الحسين, لايوجد
JournalInternational Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health
Date2025-08-28
Abstract

Oral precancerous lesions are potentially malignant disorders that carry a high risk of transformation into oral cancer if not detected early. Conventional diagnostic methods rely on invasive biopsies, highlighting the need for reliable, non-invasive biomarkers. Salivary malondialdehyde (MDA), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) reflect oxidative stress, inflammation, and tissue injury, respectively, and may serve as valuable diagnostic tools. Objectives: To measure and compare salivary levels of MDA, IL-6, and LDH between patients with oral precancerous lesions and individuals without such lesions, and to assess their diagnostic potential.
