Abstract
Nowadays, fifth generation (5G) wireless network is considered one of the most important research topics in wireless industry and it will be substituting with fourth generation (4G) in several aspects. Although the robustness of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system against channel delays which is the reason behind using it in LTE/LTE Advanced however, it is suffering from high peak to average power ration (PAPR) and out of band side lobes. So, universal filtered multi-carrier (UFMC) technique is considered a new modulation scheme for 5G wireless communication system to overcome on the common OFDM demits. In contrast, to achieve reliable data transmission in digital communication systems, using error correcting codes are considered an essential over noisy channels. In this paper, BCH code has been used for UFMC system over AWGN. The results showed that using BCH codes in UFMC contributed in enhancing BER performance while could decreasing both of PAPR and OOBE values better than conventional OFDM system.

AbstractRecently, a novel BCS code differing from conventional concatenated (RS/BCH) codes has been proposed for LTE system. It achieved a significant improvement in the LTE system performance better than single codes and familiar concatenated (RS/BCH) codes. However, LTE systems that primarily depend on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), no longer meet the demand of wireless-communication systems and their high data-rate requirements because of the rapid growth in the service aspect of such systems. In addition to high out-of-band emission (OOBE) and big peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM, it doesn’t meet the demand of 5G diverse service scenarios. Meanwhile, filtered OFDM (f-OFDM) is considered a candidate technique for 5G wireless communication systems which have OFDM features as well low OOBE. However, a trade-off exists among reducing OOBE, bit error rate (BER) degradation, and high PAPR. In this work, the BCS code is proposed for f-OFDM to enhance its system performance, while a root-raised-cosine windowed finite impulse response (FIR) filter is selected in f-OFDM to reduce OOBE levels. Results show that in the BPSK and QPSK modulation schemes, f-OFDM achieves a low level of OOBE after using an FIR digital filter against a high level of OFDM. Meanwhile, the proposed system using the BCS code enables remarkable improvement in BER performance and helps reduce PAPR better than conventional OFDM systems. Therefore, considering these features, the proposed system using the BCS code can be presented as a candidate for 5G wireless-communication systems.

AbstractBecause of the increased demand for high data rates, looking for using new technologies that meet these requirements are considered a necessary. Hence, Fifth Generation (5G) is expected to be impressive in offering these requirements and implement around 2020. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is considered a main technology of LTE wireless communication standards. Due to its suffering from high Bit Error Rate (BER) and Peak Average Power Ratio (PAPR), OFDM doesn't consider as charming solution for future wireless communications and several emerging applications of 5G. Moreover, high Out of Band Emission (OOBE) and inability of supporting the flexible numerology are other demerits of OFDM systems. Thus, looking for alternative waveforms which have the ability of solving OFDM disadvantages are necessary to introduce it as contender candidate for 5G wireless communication systems. In this paper, both of Filtered-OFDM (f-OFDM) and Universal Filtered Multi carrier (UFMC) systems have been discussed for 5G wireless communication systems and compared to OFDM system. The results showed that f-OFDM system is better than both OFDM and UFMC systems and could be introducing as competitive candidate for 5G wireless communication systems because of its ability of reducing OOBE and enhancing BER performance.

AbstractDue to its large peak to average power ratio (PAPR) and high out of band emission (OOBE), OFDM doesn't meet the requirements of 5G services. Additionally, it supports only one type of waveform parameters in entire bandwidth. In contrast, f-OFDM is dividing the system's bandwidth into a number of subbands to support several waveform parameters based on various service scenarios. So, Filtered-OFDM (f-OFDM) is considered as a modern enabler of the flexible waveform to overcome the OFDM drawbacks while remaining its advantages as well as, to encounter the new challenges that faced 5G. Nonetheless, there is a trade-off among OOBE, PAPR and SNR performance. Meanwhile, channel coding technology is one of the most important issue in physical layer which is playing an essential role in order to achieve the reliability and latency. So, BCH code has been suggested in this paper for f-OFDM system to achieve the reliability of transmission information and thus improving BER performance over multipath fading channel. Whilst, BCH-LTE system is introduced as a baseline in this paper that using for comparison purpose with proposed system. Simulation results showed that the proposed BCH-f-OFDM system was significantly better than BCH-LTE system in terms of decreasing OOBE and achieving improving in BER performance. Although, PAPR levels was stilling high in proposed system due to the trade-off among OOBE, PAPR and SNR performance. However, the proposed system is considered a promising candidate to meet the requirements of 5G services because of its ability to solve two important issues in between three trade-offs'.

AbstractFifth generation (5G) mobile communication is expected to be deployed in several countries by 2020. Where, the data consumptions are expected to be increased to 30% thus, it cannot be supported by the present technologies 3G and 4G. In contrast, looking for new alternative modulation techniques of orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) system which is suffering from high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and out of band (OOB) side lobes are needed to use in 5G communication system. Hence, Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier (UFMC) is considered as alternative waveform to overcome of OFDM disadvantages. In communication systems, channel coding is considered vital part, where error correction codes (ECC) are used to detect and correct the errors which is occurring in channel noise. In this paper, RS codes are suggested with UFMC system to achieve the reliability of information transmission over noisy channels. The results showed that although, the values of PAPR levels for using RS codes in UFMC increased to 8.8653dB against 6.9735 dB for OFDM system. However, there are significant improvements in BER performance owing to use RS codes against uncoded-UFMC system. Furthermore, the values of OOB in UFMC system was lower than OFDM system.

AbstractRecently, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is considered one of the most significant transmission methods which are commonly used in LTE standard. However, high both Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and Out-Of-Band Emission (OOBE) are the most disadvantages of OFDM system. So, it doesn’t meet the service scenarios demand of 5G heterogeneous owing to its disadvantages. In contrast, Filtered-OFDM is considered as a strong candidate for 5G air interface owing to its capability of achieving very low OOBE and maintain Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. Nevertheless, a trade-off exists among reducing OOBE and degradation both BER and PAPR. In other hand, using error correction codes in noisy channels is very important issue to achieve the reliability in information transmission of digital communication systems. In this paper, Hard Decision Decoding (HDD) RS codes have been proposed for f-OFDM system to improve the data reliability over multipath fading channels. While, RS-LTE system has been used as baseline for comparison purpose in this paper. The results show that, the proposed system could effectively solve the trade-offs challenge, where it outperformed of RS-LTE system in terms of OOBE, PAPR and BER. So, the proposed system could be considered a strong contender waveform for 5G communication systems owing to these advantages.
