Albermani ZM, Mehdy Zeiny SS, Naqi MT, Mlaghee Al Safi SM., Analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of Phoenix dactylifera in Wistar rats, Onl J Vet Res., 27 (7): 447-450, 2023. Authors report effect of 100 to 300mg/kg oral methanolic extract of Phoenix dactylifera dates on analgesia and inflammation in 7 groups of male and female Wistar rats. Controls were given normal saline or Mobic. For the pain test, rats were injected intraperitoneally with acetic acid 30 minutes before extract. For the inflammation test, rats were given extract 30 minutes before formalin paw test. Contractions and paw tests were evaluated every 5-20 minutes for 50 minutes. At doses of 200, 250 and 300 mg/kg extract we recorded no clinical signs whereas at 100-150mg/kg we recorded abdominal contractions or hind limb stretches and paw redness up to 30 minutes. Compared with Mobic controls, results suggest >200mg/kg extract may have suppressed pain and inflammation in Wistar rats.
