Summary
The current study was conducted for the period from November 2021 untilMay2022, which aims to study an epidemiological and diagnostic study of the parasite G. lamblia and to measure some immunological parameters of those infected with the parasites in NajafGovernorate.
Stool samples were examined macroscopically and then microscopically by direct swab and flotation method. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent technology was used to examine blood samples of infected and healthy parasites to measure some immunological parameters, namely IgE antibody, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and interleukin IL-2
The results of the microscopic examination of 1933 samples showed that 327 samples were infection rate of 17%, and 34 samples were infected with the parasite G. lamblia, the highest percentage of G. lamblia was in April 3.1%, and the lowest percentage in December was 0%. The parasite G. lamblia was in the liquid stool samples, which amounted to 68.6% and 44.1, respectively, and the lowest percentage was for the solid stool samples, which amounted to 2.4% and 2.9%, respectively.
Also, the G. lamblia parasite recorded a higher percentage in males than females, as it was recorded 58.8% and 41.2%, respectively. The results also showed percentage for the group >50 was 11.6%, and the highest percentage of G. lamblia was for the two age groups with equal rates of 23.5%.
