Thyroid nodules are reported to be found in 33% of adult patients between the age of 18 and 65 years and in 50% of the population over 65 years of age . Although the majority of the thyroid nodules are benign, malignancy has a prevalence of 5%–15% .Ultrasound elastography is a US-based technique to assess the biomechanical properties of tissue in the clinical setting. It is based upon the principle that, under compression, the softer parts of tissues deform easier than the harder parts. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of ultrasound elastography (USE) in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid nodules.
