This paper reports on the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) process of hydroxyapatite/titania nano composite coatings on 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS). A homogeneous thin coating was obtained using the EPD process at a potential of 30 V for 1 min. The microstructure of the coated substrate was identified by optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The formed phases of the primary materials were analyzed by using X-Ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of deposition voltage on the kinetics of EPD at 20, 30 and 40 volts were identified. The corrosion behavior of coated and uncoated samples was studied in a Ringer's solution using potentiodynamic and cyclic polarization tests. A homogeneous morphology and crack-free structure was obtained with an optimum condition at 30 V with minimum porosity and the highest corrosion resistance. The current study showed an excellent corrosion resistance with a stability and suitability of these materials for medical purposes when used as a substrate coated with a bio-composite hydroxyapatite/titania layer.
