Effect of Simvastatin drug on liver function parameters in men patients with hyperlipidemia in Al-Najaf province

Abstract

The current study was carried out in Al-Hakeem Hospital in Al-Najaf province. The study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of simvastatin drug that's used to treatment of hyperlipidemia on liver function criteria (ALT,AST,ALP, and bilirubin) in a number of hyperlipidemic males patients. Forty-eight male patients who are taking this drug to reduced cholesterol concentration in the plasma participated in the study, their ages ranged from (36-65) years divided into two groups (24/group) according to simvastatin doses 10 and 20 mg once daily. Also, eighteen healthy males contribute as control subjects, their ages ranged from (33- 66) years. Results of this study revealed, that simvastatin administration at different doses to hyperlipidaemic patients with different ages causes a significant elevation of ALT, AST, ALP and bilirubin levels which increased relatively with the doses of simvastatin and patients ages. On the other hand, the results obtained there was an effect of interaction between different doses of simvastatin and ages of hyperlipidaemic patients that treated with it on liver function tests particularly at the higher doses and ages , and this effect was represented by increased of these parameters. The study was suggested that the therapy with simvastatin may be causes lesions in liver tissues indicated by elevation of serum liver function criteria levels and this effect was dependent on simvastatin doses and patients' ages.

Abstract

Abstract: The current study was done during the period from December 2013 to January 2015 to detect the mutations of GSTM1 and GSTT1 in bladder cancer patients. A total sixty fresh tumor biopsies from patients of Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and thirty fresh biopsies of cystitis as control used in this study. GSTM1 mutation of patient group was significantly higher (P<0.001) than that of control group while GSTT1 mutation was not significant in bladder cancer patients. There are a significant correlation between GSTM1 mutation with smoking (P=0.047) and advanced tumor stage (P=0.006) and also between GSTT1 mutation with smoking (P=0.002) and higher mean age (P = 0.025

Effect of different doses of ferrous sulfate drug on some haematological parameters in male albino rat

JournalAl-Kufa journal of biology
Abstract

The study was designed to investigate the effect of different doses and different durations of ferrous sulfate drug administration on some blood criteria, using 48 males of albino rats. The animals were divided into four main groups (12 males for each group), the first group control and the other three groups were orally intragastric administrated with (50,75,100) mg/kg bw for three periods (4,6,8) weeks .The blood samples were collected to measure the haematological criteria that include Red Blood Cells count (RBCs) , blood haemoglobine (Hb),Packed Cell Volume(PCV),Mean Corpuscle Haemoglobine Concentration (MCHC), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobine (MCH) and Mean Corpuscle Volume (MCV). Results of this study revealed , that ferrous sulfate administration causes a significant elevation for all haematological parameters which proportionally increased with the dosage levels and dosage durations. It was also observed a significant effect of interaction between different doses and periods on most haematological parameters except MCH and MCHC. All results compared with control group and between treated groups. The results suggested that the administration of ferrous sulfate drug in high dosing level and long durations may causes defect in haemopoesis especially erythropoiesis that indicated by increased blood parameters level rather than treatment of iron deficiency anemia because of iron supply increase.

Abstract

The current study was carried out in the animal house of the Collegeof Medicinein Universityof Kufa. It was conducted also in the laboratories of histopathology and biochemistry in Al-sadir Educational Hospital and Higher Education laboratory in the College of Education for girls / Kufa University, during the period 25/10/2008 – 19/3/2009. It was designed to demonstrate the influence of acute dose of Cadmium Chloride (75mg/kg) and oral subchronic administration (10,20,30) mg CdCl2/L with drinking water for the periods (3,6,9) weeks in some cytogenetic parameter which include Argyrophilic Nucleolar Organizing Region (AgNOR) in duodenum, liver and kidney and the Micronuclei (MN) in Polychromatic Erythrocytes (PCE) of bone marrow. It is found that the effect of acute and subchronic administration in some of the cytogenetic parameters has reveal significant elevation in the mean of AgNOR of kidney and MN in PCE exposure to CdCl2 in acute administration compared with the control group, while in subchronic administration the significant increase happened in AgNOR of kidney and liver tissues at the concentration 30 mg CdCl2/L and period 9 weeks, in addition to significant elevation of MN which was affected by the elevation of dosing level (20,30) mg CdCl2/L from drinking water, prolonged of duration ( 9 weeks ) and the interaction between these two factors.
