ABSTRACT : The current study was conducted in Najaf governorate, Iraq, where it was examined (95) biopsy samples of
suspected patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis, who visited hospitals in the governorate (Al-Hakim general hospital, AlFurat Al- Awsat hospital, Al- Haidaryia general hospital and Al-Manathira hospital) for the period from November 2017 to the
end of March 2018, which aims to measure the concentration of some cytokines and Immunoglobulins in patients with
leishmaniasis. The parasites that cause cutaneous leishmaniasis were diagnosed by direct microscopy, using Giemsa stain.
The concentration of some cytokines in patients serum was determined by Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The
results showed an increase in the concentration of IFN-γ, IL-12 and TNF-α in the serum of patients, who reached ( 221.4±22.6,
32±12.3 and 125±24.4 Pg/ml) respectively, compared to the control that reached (65.6±16.3, 24±7.5 and 34±18.5 Pg/ml),
respectively. IgA and IgG concentration was determined by Single radial Immunodiffusion test (SRID), whereas IgE concentration
was determined by ELISA technique. The results revealed an increase in the concentration of IgA, IgE and IgG in the serum of
patients, who reached (114.2±20.4 mg/dl, 163.2±24.4 IU/ml and 1577±210.5 mg/dl) respectively, compared to the control group
that reached ( 41±15.3 mg/dl, 77±22.3 IU/ml and 164±80.2 mg/dl), respectively. The conclusion from this study that there is a
cellular and humoral immune response in the patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis.
