In this work, a group of 20 laboratory tests of driven open-ended steel model pile was performed in two shapes (circular and square), with different cross-sectional areas, and with different penetration ratios of the model pile into the soil. It was found from the results of the tests that the pull-out capacity of the circular model pile was higher than that of the square one in diameters of 3 mm and 4 mm, with penetration ratios of 15 and 20, while the square model pile had a higher capacity than the circular one in the case of diameter 5 mm for all penetration ratios. The results of the tests were used as a database to perform regression analysis. Regression analysis showed that it is possible to obtain an empirical equation for calculating the pull-out capacity depending on the dimensions of the model pile, the length of the soil column inside the pile, in addition to the penetration distance per blow with a R2 of 92%. The proposed equation took into account the length of the soil column formed inside the pile in computing pull-out capacity, and this was not taken into consideration in any available dynamic formula.
