Abstract

Filgrastim is an anticancer drug used for the treatment of cancer patients suffering neutropenia. In the last years, studies proved that filgrastim has an adverse effect and wreaked lesions on different organs as testis attributed to the formation of reactive oxygen species. In general, previous studies suggested using natural substances besides the anticancer drug to decrease reactive oxygen species such as curcumins and lycopene. The Armoracia Rusticana is a folk medicinal herb used in different medical fields which has an antioxidant effect on the cells. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the possibility of using the Armoracia Rusticana as protection and ameliorative the effect against the adverse effect of Filgrastim on mature albino rats. Moreover, the present study evaluated the sperm parameters and serum reproductive hormones. Finally, the current investigation deduced that Armoracia Rusticana has ameliorative and protective against the advisers Filgrastim and can be used synergistically.

Abstract

Diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease all raise the risk of hospitalization and mortality in individuals infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Higher levels of fogosis mediators such as TNF, C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-1, IL-6, leptin, and resistin, as well as increased levels of TNF, C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-1, IL-6, leptin, and resistin, defne diabetes. The goal of this study is to evaluate the levels of D-dimer, total serum bilirubin (TSB), glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and CRP in diabetic patients with COVID-19 infection to COVID-19 patients without diabetes. Blood samples were collected from individuals with diabetes who had COVID-19 and non-diabetic COVID patients as control. Moreover, D-dimer and CRP were evaluated by using Min Vidus and Latx, respectively, whereas AccEnT 200 system was used to measure the serum level of TSB, GPT, and GOT in the hematology lab. Also demonstrated that the average serum concentration of D-dimer, GOT and CRP was high in diabetic COVID-19-infected patients (980.66 ng/mL, 67.71 U/L, and 27.06 mg/L, respectively) compared with non-diabetic COVID-19-infected patients (791.17 ng/mL, 54.023 U/L and 20.11 mg/L, respectively) (p<0.05), while the situation was inverse for the average concentration of TSB and GTP when their average concentrations were low in diabetic COVID-19-infected patients (12.89 Mmol/L and 59.79 U/L, respectively) (p>0.05). Moreover, the cut-of values for serum D-dimer, TSB, GPT, GOT, and CRP of COVID-19-infected diabetic patients were≥6500 ng/mL,≥350 Mmol/L,≥133 U/L mg/L,≥150 U/L, and≥15.22 mg/L, respectively, represented a perfect test for predicting COVID-19-infected diabetic patients with 100% sensitivity and specifcity. In conclusion, serum D-dimer, TSB, GPT, GOT and CRP increased in diabetic COVID-19-infected patients compared to non-diabetic COVID-19 patients and the D-dimer concentration also increases. TSB and CRP were more pronounced among diabetic patients with corona, while liver enzyme concentrations were decreased.

Journalamerican journal of pharmtech research
Abstract

ABSTRACT Recently, a great attention has been paid to the role of hormones as a diagnostic too in the evaluation of female infertility . The purpose of this study was to identify the association between female infertility and hormonal imbalance (FSH, LH and Prolactin) and what is the relationship between these hormones and the woman's socio- demographic and clinical characteristics. The study was carried out at the Fertility Center in Al-Sadr Medical City, which is located in Najaf province, Iraq, during the period from Dec, 2014 to Apr, 2015. The study involved (44) infertile women who attended the Fertility Center. In accordance to the socio-demographic data, the majority of the studies women were from urban regions (81.18%), while all them were housewives. The clinical history revealed a relatively high percentage (56.82%) of vaginitis, and UTI (50%) among the studies women, while most of them were either overweight (40.91%) or obese (22.73%). The results showed that the majority of studies women had normal hormonal levels according to the standard reference limits for FSH, LH and Prolactin. The study also showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the level of FSH and the age of the studies infertile women. It was concluded that hormonal imbalance for (LH, FSH and prolactin) is just a minor suspected etiologic factor in causing infertility in the studies women the level of FSH increases with age, while the level of prolactin slightly decreases with age. It was recommended to achieve a comprehensive case-control study for evaluating hormonal imbalance of (FSH, LH, prolactin, estrogens, progesterone, thyroid and inhibit) hormones in the infertile women

Association between sperm chromatin status and macroscopic sperm parameters in human

AuthorsHisham Q. Al-Nowainy, Ali A. Al-Fahham
JournalJournal of Kerbala University
Abstract

Abstract Most macroscopic parameters indicate accessory gland dysfunctions or congenital defects , which may also effect sperm chromatin status by increasing oxidative stress and apoptosis . The current study aimed to find out the possible relationship between sperm chromatin status and the parameters of macroscopic semen examination . This study was carried out between June 1st. 2014 and November 1st. 2014 including one hundred (100) selected infertile men who was treated at the Fertility Center in Al-Sadr Medical City in Al-Najaf Province . The study also included twenty (20) healthy fertile volunteers as a control . Aniline blue (AB) staining was used to differentiate between normal condensed chromatin (unstained) and abnormal decondensed chromatin (blue), while toluidine blue (TB) was used to differentiate between normal intact sperm DNA (blue) and abnormal damaged sperm DNA (purple) . Abnormal macroscopic semen parameters (except semen appearance and pH) and abnormal sperm chromatin status were seen to be increased in significant levels in the infertile group as compared to fertile men (control) . The results also revealed that there was a high significant negative correlation (p<0.01) between both sperm chromatin decondensation and sperm DNA damage and each of ejaculate volume, liquefaction time, and a positive association with semen viscosity , while no relationship was observed with semen appearance and pH . The study concluded that abnormal semen macroscopic parameters may indicate sperm DNA fragmentation or chromatin decondensation . It is recommended that aniline blue and toluidine blue staining are used to assess sperm DNA fragmentation or chromatin decondensation when bad macroscopic parameters are noticed in the first part of seminal fluid analysis .
