مختصر البحثThe term 'code-switching' refers to the juxtaposition of elements from two (or more) languages or dialects. There is, however, little agreement among scholars on either the semantic scope of the term as they use it, or the nature of distinctions to be drawn between it and other, related terms such as code mixing. The term 'code-mixing' is a fluid one that overlaps with 'code-switching'. Switching and mixing may happen to a certain extent in speech of all two languages in a way that results in real confusion in relation to the two sociolinguistic terms. Thus, this work attempts to produce a rather comprehensive socio-linguistic approach to investigate these two distinct but interrelated sociolinguistic phenomena. This includes investigating the most observable operational definitions, distinguishing linguistic features and most influencing sociolinguistic factors on the use of the two terms. In light these aims the study hypothesizes that code- switching and code- mixing can be inspected from various viewpoints. Moreover, the processes of the code- switching and code- mixing and their linguistic aspects and performances are connected.

مختصر البحث Negotiation is a vehicle of communication. It is a form of interaction among social interactants that is structured by certain aspects, norms, and tactics, and that is productive of social resources. This paper is an attempt to tackle the pragmatic nature of the term negotiation, and offers a theoretical background about the significant pragmatic issues and tenets of negotiation. In this regard, it aims to define these issues and other relevant concepts providing a pragma-linguistic background in order to give a better understanding of negotiation as an interactional communicative process. Thus, the study hypothesizes that speech act, presupposition, deixis, conversational implicatures, relevance, strategic maneuvering and politeness that are utilized by both sides of negotiation to actualize the two types of negotiation. These pragmatic issues most relevant to negotiation are therefore discussed in order to configure the pragmatic nature of negotiation process as a whole.
Translational Problems in Transferring the Intended Meaning of Clarification Tropes in Shiite Discourse

مختصر البحثThe current paper is an attempt to identify the vital role that can be assumed by rhetorical pragmatics in the bridging translational gaps that characterize various kinds of the translations of Shiite religious discourses. It is believed that translators may not manage transferring the exact intended effect or illocutionary force from ST to TT. Thus, translators of religious texts and discourses, particularly Ahlulbait's traditions and Hadith, are supposed to familiarize themselves with pragmatic issues in general and rhetorical pragmatics-related ones in particular in order to handle some of the major translational pitfalls that characterize some of these translations.
