: Hypercholesterolemia results from metabolic disturbance due to several factors and is counted to be risky for
diabetic disease especially type 2, in addition to hypertension, cardiovascular disease various cancers and stroke. Hesperidin is
categorized as a flavanone glycoside, also its classified as a natural phenolic compound that has multiple biological effects.
Increasing evidence has established that hesperidin has impact of inhibition high level of cholesterol. This study debates the
mechanisms of hesperidin as therapeutic agent against hypercholesterolemia. Hesperidin regulates lipid metabolism through
mediating of AMPK (activates protein kinase) signaling pathways then it can be used in program of hypercholesterolemia
treatment. Moreover, enriched dietary supplements with hesperidin shows notable improvement in symptoms like hyperlipidemia
and postprandial hyperglycaemia. Also, supplementary clinical studies should need to confirm cholesterol inhibitory effect of
this natural flavonoid and determine its safety profile.
