Effectiveness of an educational program about lifestyle habits on patients’ knowledge with gastroesophageal reflux disease

Abstract

Abstract BACKGROUND: To assess patients’ knowledge about lifestyle habits with GERD and to evaluate patients’ knowledge about lifestyle habits with GERD, in addition, to determining the effectiveness of the educational program on patients’ knowledge about lifestyle habits with GERD. Also, to find out the relationship between patients’ knowledge and their socio-demographic and clinical data. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Quasi-experimental design was implemented in the present study are assigned randomly into two groups (study and control groups) by using pre- and post-test procedures for both groups to determine the effectiveness of an educational program. A non-probability (purposive sample) technique selected 64 patients included in the present study. RESULTS: The findings of the present study indicate that the overall patients’ knowledge about lifestyle habits after educational program application was good in the study group, while in the control group was fair at the post-test. CONCLUSION: The study concludes that a positive effect of the educational program on the patients’ knowledge regarding lifestyle habits after GERD, and as this effect is proven.

Assessment of Nurses’ Knowledge Concerning Management of Fractures in Orthopedic Wards

Abstract

The main purposes of fractures care are to support injured joints and prevent joint injury, correct and support weak or deformed extremities, prevent worsening of abnormal curves in the spine and support in a specific positions in healing. Objectives of the study to order to assess nurses’ knowledge concerning management of fractures and to Find out the relationship between nurses’ knowledge and their demographic characteristics of age, gender, level of education, type of ward, training session, duration of session and years of experience in orthopedic wards. Descriptive Cross-Sectional Design carried out in Al-Sadder Medical City and adopted in the current study to achieve the early stated objectives. The study started from October 1st, 2016 until April, 20th, 2017. A Non-Probability (Convenience Sample) of (40) nurses were including in the present study. Sample collect from orthopedic wards. Data collected through using of a well-designed questionnaire consist of two parts: part I consists of (7) items, which included age, gender, level of education, type of ward, training session, duration of session and years of experience in orthopedic wards, and part II consists of (36) items, which included questions about anatomy, definition, types, treatment and general information about the fractures.

Assessment of Diabetic Patients, Knowledge toward Foot Care at Al-Najaf Center for Diabetes and Endocrine

Abstract

Diabetes considered as one of the world’s biggest health problem, and it’s one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality, Also its complications lead to increase in disability, reduced life expectancy and many health care costs to the community. Diabetic patients must take care of the feet because there are many problems accompanied with diabetes. Patient with diabetes are vulnerable to neurovascular damage which can result in loss of protective sensation in the feet, poor circulation, and poor healing of foot sore. All of these situations participate to increase amputation rate. Objectives of the study to order to assess patients knowledge toward foot care for patients with diabetes mellitus and to find out the relationship between patients knowledge toward foot care and their demographic and clinical data. Descriptive Cross-Sectional Design is adopted in the current study to achieve the early stated objectives. The study started from October 1st, 2016 until May, 6th, 2017. A Non-Probability (Accidental Sample) of (80) Diabetes Mellitus patients,those who visit Al-Sadder Medical City / Al-Najaf Center for Diabetes and Endocrine, are included in the study sample. Data collected through using of a well-designed questionnaire consist of three parts: part I consists of demographic data contain (7) items, and part II consists of clinical data contain (5) items, and part III consists of (11) items about knowledge toward foot care. Data collected by direct interview method with diabetic patients’. The data are described statistically and analyzed through the use of the descriptive and inferential statistical analysis procedures. The findings of the present study indicate that the overall patients’ knowledge about foot care are poor . In addition, there is not found relationship between knowledge about foot care and other demographic data . also there is a non-significant relationship between the patients knowledge about foot care and clinical data except with their Foot problem at p-value 0.041. The study concludes there is diabetic patients’ knowledge about foot care are insufficient. The study recommends An education program should be designed and implemented to increase people's information about self-care regimen for diabetes mellitus in order to reduce or prevent complications. And create a unit to provide health care services like educating patients with diabetes in the diabetic center for providing instruction about self-care activities.

Assessment of Self-Care Activities among Patients with Heart Failure

Abstract

Objective: aimed to assess self-care activities among patients with heart failure and to find out the relationship between the patient self-care activities and clinical data (diabetes mellitus, Kidney failure, Thyroid disease, C.V.A. Methodology: a descriptive study was carried out through the present study in order to achieve the early stated objectives. The study was begun from November, 1st, 2016 to April, 22nd, 2016. The study is conducted in Al-Najaf City/Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Health Directorate / Al-Sadder Medical City in cardiac units (CCU, Medical ward and Al-Najaf Center for Heart Disease and Surgery). A non-probability (Convenience) sample of (60) patients with Heart Failure, were included in the present study. The data was collected on structured questionnaire designed specifically for this study, and it is consist of three parts:Part 1 Included Socio-demographic characteristics and clinical data, and Part 2 Include (Chronic disease). Part 3 include Information regarding self-care activities. Validity of the study instrument is conducted through a panel of experts who have years of experience in nursing field. Data analysis by using descriptive statistics (percentage, frequency &mean of score) and inferential statistics (Chi-Square, Standard deviation and Contingency Coefficient). Results: revealed that the heart failure patients were failure at all studied domains regarding self-care activities. Also there was a non-significant association between self-care activities of heart failure patients and their clinical data except with diabetes mellitus there is a significant association at P-value equal or less than 0.05. Conclusion: The researcher can conclude that the patients in rural residential area are more vulnerable to get heart failure than those in urban areas and Heart failure has strong effect on overall domains of patient self-care activities. Recommendation: The study recommends that increasing medical and nursing care for heart failure patients to promote self-care activities.And Further studies should be conduction with a larger sample (national level) including both rural and urban populations.

Abstract

Abstract- Objective: this study aimed to assess of self-care activities among diabetic patients’ type II and to find out the relationship between self-care activities and their demographic and clinical data. Methodology:Descriptive Cross-Sectional Design was adopted in the current study in order to assess of self-care activities among diabetic patient type II. A Non-Probability (Purposive Sample) of (200) Diabetes Mellitus patients with type II. Data collected through using of a well-designed questionnaire consist of three parts, part I consists of demographic data , part II consists of clinical data , and part III consists of self-care activities , Data collected by direct interview method with diabetic patients’. Data was analyzed by using descriptive and Inferential Data Analysis . Results: The findings indicate that the patients' responses are high at medications domain. Poor at the exercise and monitoring domains. In addition, moderate at the remaining domains. also there is a highly significant relationship between the patients (self-care activities) and their (levels of education, treatment, health education, sources of health education, complications). while there is a non-significant relationship with remaining demographic and clinical data.Conclusion: The study conclude that moderate self-care activities is the main level for most of the patients. Also study concludes that large number of the patient with TIIDM have cardiovascular diseases as a complication that can affect their self-care activities. Recommendation: The study recommends an education program should be designed and implemented to increase patient’s information about self-care regimen for diabetes mellitus in order to reduce or prevent complications.
