ABSTRACT
Al Anbagi NA, Amialy AJ, Al Atabi AC., Antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus swabbed from flystrike (Chrysomya bezziana) myasis in sheep and goats, Onl J Vet Res., 26 (10): 762-769, 2022. We report antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus swabbed from skin sites infested by screw worm Chrysomya bezziana in 52 sheep and 35 goats. We found prevalence in sheep of ~60 and goats ~40% wherein of 52 sheep, ~79% in ewes and 21.1% in wethers and of 35 goats, ~83% on females and ~20% males were infested. Antibiotic susceptibility (%) for Staphylococcus aureus spp by disc diffusion for vancomycin was 98.1, florphenicol 84.6, doxyclycline 60.2, cefotixin 72.3, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid 44.8, oxytetracycline 36.5, chloralphenicol 30.4, clindamycin 22.6, penicillin 31.2, ciprofloxalin 41.2, enroflaxine 47.5, tetracycline 39.0 , lincomycin 44.8, and gentamycin 53.2%. Results suggest that there was no difference in antibiotic susceptibility to staphylococcus aureus taken from screw worm sites in goats or sheep. However, the bacteria were susceptible to vancomycin and florphenicol.
