This research aims to explore the most prominent Iraqi novels that have addressed the issues of violence and terrorist attacks during the post-American invasion of Iraq in 2003. It places particular emphasis on a critical analysis of two notable novels that have transcended the traditional realist framework to delve into surreal narrative worlds. These worlds invoke elements of boundless imagination and unconventional scenarios: The Dead of Baghdad by Jamal Hussein Ali and Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi.
This study employs an analytical approach aimed at identifying the similarities and differences in the use of symbolism and narrative paradoxes between these two works. It highlights how the authors leverage the tools of fantasy and the absurd as means to critique lived reality or to escape from its harshness.
Keywords: Iraqi novel, violence, reality, fantasy, supernatural.
