ABSTRACT: The present study aims at finding interpretations for some inquiries in the field of encyclopedic semantics. It is an academic reflection of language exchange between English and Arabic which is one of the most prevalent interests of the recent cognitive linguistic researches. Particularly, it analyzes the way culture-specific words of two different languages can comparatively be understood. The single-method is adopted for the methodological approach of the study. The data collection is conducted according to a content analysis by extracting some CSWs that are referred to in some comparative culture-specific studies of English and Arabic. It is found that (1) there can be more than one domain matrix for equivalent CSWs; (2) the exact comparison between CSWs lies in the profile-base organization (3) the two or multi-dimensional domains are configurational; (4) the culture-specific standards locate the diversity between the domain matrixes of equivalent CSWs. Some key conclusions to draw is that (1) the domain matrix of a CSW depends on to the culture-specific norms; (2) the distinctive point of the tripartite (profile, base and concept) is the profile rather than the base; (3) image-schematic domains indicate the object material domains; (4) culture-specific norms are affected by religious and historical factors which control the inventory knowledge for the CSWs. ABSTRACT:- This research sheds light upon the notion of face threatening act in general and its implementation in terms of some specific aspects of a literary work. It highlights the significance of face threatening act which results in face damage to the interlocutors in a speech group and according to a speech event. More specifically, the study focuses upon the idea of self as composing of the physical aspect and the private psychological aspect. The research method approach is qualitative so as to provide in-depth explanation of face damage and the data collection is a selective one in order to cover specific aspects of face threatening act damage. The discourse analysis method is adopted in this research in order to account for how communication in language is used to achieve effects in specific contexts. One of the key points to conclude is that the desire for appreciation on one hand, and to remain autonomous on the other hand can be judgmental in making damage to the participants. Moreover, dynamism of face work is proved and interpreted via the communicative strategies of some participants in the discourse. Abstract:- This research is mainly dedicated for explaining the correlation between pragmatics and stylistics in two representative extracts quoted from Conrad’s novella “Heart of Darkness”. The correlated aspects between pragmatics and stylistics are well represented in the extracts and are well demonstrated and referred to in the analysis. The two extracts represent two different stylistic devices but each stylistic device will be dealt with and analyzed using the same pragmatic strategies. During this research, it will be clarified that the way to understand and cope with the stylistic speech is the pragmatic interpretation. In other words, stylistics, being an aspect of speech that is performed figuratively, can be interpreted and realized through pragmatics as it helps the readers to understand it figuratively not semantically.
