Introduction: The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of alpha particles and heavy metals contamination in the meat products consumed in Najaf, Iraq. Moreover, this study was also targeted toward comparing the results with those in the literature and making appropriate conclusion and recommendations. Material and Methods: This study determined the track of alpha particles and heavy metals pollution in meat samples collected from the open markets in Najaf, Iraq. These meat samples included cow, sheep (lamb), chicken, and fish. The alpha particles contamination was determined using nuclear track detectors (CR-39). The heavy metal concentrations were analyzed using atomic-absorption spectroscopy. sheep and Kufa chicken had the highest and lowest concentrations of cadmium, which were obtained as 0.2600 and 0.0020 ppm, respectively. Regarding the lead concentration, the highest and lowest concentrations were found in Kufa cow (0.8936 ppm) and Kufa chicken (0.0542 ppm), respectively. Conclusion: This study indicated that alpha particle and heavy metal contamination in the meat samples were within permissible limits. Therefore, the consumption of the selected meat products did not pose any significant hazard to the public health in Najaf. Moreover, the findings suggested that there would be no increase in the current rates of not only particle contamination, but also heavy metal pollution, compared to those of international studies.

This study a survey for the species Valerianella kotschyi Boiss. and V. muricata (Stev.) Baxt (Valerianaceae) in Kurdistan, Iraq was presented along with survey and identification of samples preserved in some Iraqi herbaria. Several scientific excursions were made to different regions in Kurdistan and a comparative study was conducted on the vegetative and reproductive parts. These have been reinforced by graphs. The present study dealt with the environment and geographical distribution and a map was designed for this purpose.

Environmental estimation of the air pollutants in some areas in Iraq

Introduction: This research focuses on the study of pollution in the consumed water in the residues models of water filters of RO system in Iraqi households. These filters are imported from the origin of the US and Taiwan, available and common in the Iraqi markets. This study is new and has not been addressed in any study to this day. The rates of environmental pollution in the samples of the residues of the water filters by measuring the emission rates of radioactivity of the alpha particles and the concentration of heavy metals were measured. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted using the technique of measuring the rate of alpha particles emission by the British nuclear detector (CR39). The heavy elements were measured using an atomic absorption spectrometer. Results: The highest value of cadmium was found in Ghadeer and the lowest cadmium value in Alswag district. The highest value of lead was found in Ghadeer and lowest in Aljameha. The emission rates of alpha particles were found to be the lowest in the sediments of Ghadeer district, and the highest values were found in Khan Almkhdhar. Conclusions: The average concentration of dissolved Cd and Pb were higher than the safe limits for each Iraqi specification and the world standards limits.

The need for human resources development programs in the areas of security and nuclear power has become understood. These programs received particular attention at various meetings, conferences, and workshop of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The agency offers a training program in the field of nuclear security of different countries on a regular basis. More than 50 associated IAEA members have expressed their willingness to embark on a nuclear power program. Also, many states already have nuclear power programs. The human resources development capable of supporting the implementation of programs is a significant challenge. It is necessary to qualify human resources in the field of nuclear security to be available at all levels and in all institutions and related facilities. The establishment of nuclear security as an academic approach is a complicated process, and many issues need to reconsider. In this regard, emphasis should place on resource development, such as faculty members and comprehensive educational materials. IAEA emphasized the need for human resources development programs in nuclear security at some IAEA conferences. The IAEA also emphasized the importance of developing nuclear security support centers (NSSC) that would facilitate and improve human resources. NSSC aims to support and facilitate the systematic development of sustainable human resources through the implementation and elaboration of a nuclear security training program based on needs assessment. This center could be a hypothetical center, ensuring the long-term sustainability of nuclear security capabilities in different countries. The IAEA has developed a strategy for various types of short training, such as specialized training courses, to programs leading to a master's degree in nuclear security to sustain and enhance nuclear security. The program consists of two main areas: training and education. It is useful to see this process in a broader context, such as choosing a concept for implementing nuclear security in universities, developing qualifying colleges, developing textbooks and teaching materials, and creating appropriate laboratories. Nuclear power is an essential location for the future of energy, as it will safely provide electricity and transportation fuel products that will be economical, clean and sustainable. The revival of nuclear power promises to be successful in reactivating electricity generation around the world and in helping address concerns about greenhouse gas emissions.
