2021-007 - Nanowire/graphene Core/Shell Materials on RFID Tags for Sensing Live Cell Metabolites

AuthorsRyan Tian, Chenguang Fan Aseel Al-Baldawy Rudy Acosta
JournalUniversity of Arkansas
Abstract

This invention discloses a new nanobiosensing technology on a new methodology, based on a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag that supports a new nanocomposite, made of a reduced graphene-oxide shell on a titanate nanowire core, for detection of metabolic products of single live bacterial cell in real-time, for a wide range of new/important applications in e.g. detecting bacteria, verifying antibiotics efficacies, and potentially differentiating stem cells, cancer cells, T-cells, neural cells, etc. Most biosensing systems, including virus sensing systems, are expensive and quite bulky. The biosensing devices that are smaller are often expensive to make and are not very sensitive and designed to be integrated and used with multiple platforms and applications.

Abstract

Abstract The research demonstrates the development of spectrophotometric method for the determination of isoniazid (Antituberculosis drug) by formation of diazonium ion through drug reaction with nitrite in acid medium after that the produced ion coupled with Ethyl acetoacetate in basic medium to form azo dyes, which absorbance measured at 394 nm. Determining range is 2.5-15 ppm, the molar absorptivity is 12031.24 L. mol1.cm-1 and detection limit is 0.1071. The percent recovery is 101.1610 % and relative standard deviation RSD is 0.0870. This method showed a good selectivity when the effect of interferences studied also it has been applied successfully to the determination of isoniazid in pharmaceutical tablets. The results obtained are in agreement with certified values

Abstract

Abstract: Studies on the removal of two dyes (sulphanilic azo antipyrine and sulphanilic azo imidazole) from aqueous solution by adsorption on charcoal as an adsorbent were carried out. A series of experiments were under taken in a batch adsorption technique to access the effect of the process variables i.e. contact time, initial dye concentration, initial pH, adsorbent dose and temperature. Adsorbent dosage (0.1 g) higher value for both dyes. The equilibrium in the solution was observed within (35 min) of two sulphanilic dyes on charcoal. The equilibrium isotherms for both dyes were determined to describe the adsorption process. The results showed that the equilibrium data was fitted by of the Freundlich isotherms on charcoal surface. The result obtained shows that the adsorption isotherm for both dyes on charcoal was according to Giles classification. The thermodynamic factors such as ∆Η, ∆G and ∆S were calculated.

Abstract

Abstract A ternary semiconductor ZnO/MoS2/Ag2S nanorod array in an intimate core–shell structure was synthesized on glass substrates. The physicochemical properties and photocatalytical performance of the specimen were characterized and compared with single ZnO and binary ZnO/Ag2S and ZnO/MoS2 nanorod arrays. It is found that the coating layers depressed the band edge emission of the ZnO core, improved light absorption in the visible range, reduced charge transfer resistance, and increased photocatalytic activity. The ternary heterojunction nanorod array possessed full solar absorption with an efficiency of 52.88% for the degradation of methylene blue under visible light in 30 min. The efficiency was higher than other arrays and was 7.6 times that of the ZnO array. Theory analysis revealed that the coating layer brought different band alignment in the heterojunctions for efficient charge separation and conduction, which was beneficial for the photocatalytic performance.

Abstract

Noble metal particles have been embedded in semiconductors to improve photocatalysis efficiently, but the high cost made this approach difficult to apply widely in industry. Herein titanium dioxide/reduced graphene oxide (TiO2/rGO) nanowires in a core-shell structure were prepared. The physicochemical properties and photocatalytic performance of the specimen were characterized in comparison with TiO2 and TiO2/Pt nanowires. The rGO layer and Pt nanoparticles increased chemical states of the components, reduced bandgap energy of the nanowires, enhanced visible light absorption, improved conductance and capacitance significantly. The methylene blue as catalyzed by TiO2/Pt and TiO2/rGO nanowires was degraded to 7.9% and 8.4% in an hour, but retained 25.7% by the TiO2 nanowires. The properties and function of TiO2/rGO nanowires were close to those of TiO2/Pt nanowires, while the rGO price was much lower than that of Pt, which was of great significance for the photocatalytic application of TiO2 heterojunction materials in industry.
