ABSTRACT Background: Numerous infectious agents and risk factors cause diseases of the respiratory system in farm animals. Parainfluenza virus type 3 is a common cause of respiratory tract infections in cattle, sheep, and goats worldwide. Aim: The goal of this study was to investigate the clinical and molecular identification, as well as phylogenetic tree analysis of Caprine para influenza virus 3 (CPIV3) in goats in various regions of Al-Najaf, Iraq. Methods: During December 2022 and November 2023, 100 nasal swabs showing signs of pneumonia were obtained from two separate goat fields belonging to the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Kufa. The quantitative findings were presented as a chi-square test (χ2) was performed to assess the significance of the observed variances. A total of 100 nasal swabs were collected from goats, with CPIV3 possessing a molecular incidence of 38%. The clinical manifestations included fever, cough, difficulty breathing (rapid, short breaths), decreased appetite, and weight loss. There are no significant differences between the three areas of AL-Najaf province and sex (p > 0.05). Results: Infection rates were significantly higher in age groups older than 1 year. A phylogenetic study of the (M) gene in Caprine parainfluenza virus 3 revealed that the local Iraqi isolate accession numbers (OR978482.1–OR978486.1) were found to be closely related to NCBI-BLAST Caprine parainfluenza virus 3 strain JS2013 (KJ850331.1) at a total genetic alteration (0.01%). Conclusion: CPIV-3 is a serious respiratory infection that affects goats all over the world, including Iraq. Clinical manifestations of CPIV-3 infection range from mild respiratory problems to severe pneumonia, causing significant economic losses in the goat industry. Background: The bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is an important pathogen affecting goats, leading to respiratory diseases and considerable economic losses. Notwithstanding its known impact, data on BRSV prevalence and histopathological effects in goats from Wasit Province, Iraq, are limited. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the molecular and histopathological features of BRSV in goats, assess infection rates, and classify associated risk factors, for example, age, sex, and season. Methods: A total of 150 lung tissue samples from slaughtered goats in Wasit Province were analyzed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction for BRSV detection and histopathological examinations. Viral Ribonucleic Acid was extracted and amplified using specific primers targeting the N gene. Histopathological changes were assessed using Hematoxylin and Eosin and Masson’s trichrome staining. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the associations between the infection rates and risk factors. Results: The BRSV infection rate was 33.3%, with significant variations according to age, sex, and season. Goats older than 1 year had a higher infection rate (41.8%) than younger goats. Females exhibited a greater prevalence (23.5%) than males, and winter recorded the highest incidence (55.3%). The gross pathological findings included pulmonary discoloration, consolidation, and hemorrhagic foci. Histopathological analysis revealed severe alveolar destruction, fibrosis, syncytial cell formation, and inflammatory infiltration. Conclusion: BRSV is a main respiratory pathogen in goats, and its infection rates are influenced by demographic and seasonal factors. This study highlights the utility of molecular and histopathological techniques in BRSV diagnosis and underscores the need for targeted control measures. Further research should explore immune responses and vaccine efficacy in goats. Keywords: BRSV, Goats, Histopathology, Respiratory disease, Iraq.

Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is one of the most common causes of respiratory illness in goats globally, resulting in major financial losses. The goal of this Survey was to determine the incidence of Bovine Respiratory Syncytial virus in Al-Najaf goats and the risk factors for this disease. Between December 2021 and November 2022 For this study, 200 goats of various ages and breeds from Al Kufa, Qadisiyia, Hayderia, and Abbasyia in Al-Najaf, Iraq, were tested. The animals’ epidemiological information was recorded. An indirect Elisa test kit was used to establish the disease’s incidence. The incidence of BRSV in goats was 44.5%, and it was substantially higher in Goats aged more than one-year (50.4%). The incidence of BRSV in male and female goats did not vary significantly. Compared to samples taken during the other seasons, those collected in the winter had a significantly higher BRSV incidence. There was a significantly difference in disease infection rate (P≤0.05) among mixed goats compared with others that were not mixed with other specious. The results revealed that the imported animals had a significantly higher prevalence than the native goats. In Conclusion: Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus is predominant in goats from the Al-Najaf province and risk factors such as animal age, herd size, origin, and the herd’s geographical location are related to an increased occurrence of the disease in this region. Routine vaccination plans must be assumed to decrease the incidence of BRSV in goats. … Read more Seropositivity of BRSV of Goats detected in different locations of Al-Najaf, Iraq. Brucellosis is an occupational disease for veterinarians, farmers, and meatpacking workers. It causes heavy economic losses in livestock in developing countries and has an important public health issue for dairy product consumers. Little information is known about the camel brucellosis and its effect on human health. A study of the seroprevalence of camel brucellosis had been conducted in Al-Najaf province during the period from February 2018 to March 2019. One hundred seventy-two camels were involved in this study with ages between 3 to 9 years. The serum samples were screened by using the Rose Bengal plate test (RBPT) with positive samples tested again with the competitive ELISA test (cELISA). Our results show that out of 172 camel sera collected, 6 (6.97%) were positive for Brucella antibodies by Rose Bengal plate test of which 4 (4.6%) was confirmed by cELISA. Furthermore, on age distribution, for RBPT, the positive results were 4 camels (4.6%) and 2 camels (3.1%) for older and younger animals respectively, while in cELISA, 3 (3.4%) older camels were positive with only 1 (1.1%) younger camels. The result was statically significant (P< 0.05). The study concluded that Brucella antibodies are present in camel and they were probably infected due to contact with infected animals, and the cELISA test is a good test for confirmation of the RBPT.

This study was designed to detect equine piroplasmosis using the molecular technique in Al-Najaf province during the season that showed an increment in tick activities. Blood samples were collected from 110 horses with more than two signs of piroplasmosis. After DNA extraction, the product was examined by a polymerase chain reaction to amplify 18SrRNA. The results showed that the overall percentage of equine theileriosis was 38.18%. According to gender, the percentage of infection was 43.48% and 29.27% in females and males, respectively. Significant variations appeared between infected horses according to age, and the percentage of infection was 50% and 35.22% in less than 2 years and more than 2 years age, respectively. Moreover, the percentage of infection was 62.5% and 19.35% in animals with and without acariasis, respectively. Significant variations were also seen in equine theileriosis according to geographical areas, and the higher percentage was reported in Hera district (60.87%), while the lowest percentage was in the center of Al-Najaf (21.43%). This difference may be due to different distribution of vector of disease (tick), which may be the availability of the suitable weather that helped in the multiplication of the intermediate vectors. In conclusion, this study proved the variations in the occurrences of equine piroplasmosis according to gender, age, and geographical areas.
