Abstract

Methicillin-resistant coagulase negative Staphylococcus warneri (MR-CoNS) is the major source of infective diseases because of its capacity to form biofilm inhabiting the hospital environments or community to regulate the sensitivity of S. warneri to lemon oil and also examination of the anti-biofilm activity. Five isolates were taken from urinary tract infection and skin burns, tested by the VITEK-2 compact system (AST and ID) to confirm S. warneri. The diagnosis result showed one isolate due to S. warneri. The susceptibility of S. warneri to the formation of the biofilm was investigated in the presence and absence of glucose, exhibiting greater ability to form the biofilm in its presence. Penicillin G and Mixofloxacin were examined with the concentrations of MIC, sub-MIC and sub-sub-MIC, used to inhibit the formation of biofilm. The synergism activity was tested between lemon oil, penicillin G and moxifloxacin. The result displayed that a synergistic actvitity between the two antibiotics and lemon oil was the most efficient to prevent biofilm formation.

Abstract

الوصف Background: Helicobacter pylori, a member of Epsilonproteobacteria, is a Gram-negative microaerophilic bacterium that colonizes gastric mucosa of about 50% of the human population. Although most infections caused by H. pylori are asymptomatic, the microorganism is strongly associated with serious diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and gastric cancer, and it is classified as a group I carcinogen. The prevalence of H. pylori infections varies worldwide. prevalence among middle-aged adults is over 80 percent in many developing countries, as compared with 20 to 50 percent in industrialized countries. The infection is acquired by oral ingestion of the bacterium and is mainly transmitted within families in early childhood, Humans can also become infected with Helicobacter heilmannii, a spiral bacterium found in dogs, cats, pigs, and nonhuman primate

Abstract

Abstract: Intestinal parasites are important health problem for diabetics. Therefore, there is an urgent need to study the prevalence of intestinal parasites in individuals suffering from this disease. The current study was conducted during February 2020 to April 2021 to study the prevalence of intestinal parasites in diabetic patients in the province of Najaf, Iraq. A total of 372 samples were examined, which were 137 samples were positive for intestinal parasites in diabetic patients. The most common intestinal parasite in diabetic patients was Entameaba hitolitica with proportion of 34.3%, and the age group most affected by intestinal parasites in diabetes was 6-40 years. The results showed a significant higher infection in females (57.6%). The results also showed that the prevalence of intestinal parasites among diabetics is high in people who lived in rural areas (70%) (P<0.05). The current study included the correlation of age, sex, and residence with the prevalence of parasites in patients with diabetes, due to the scarcity of information on the prevalence and type of infection with pathogenic intestinal parasites in diabetics

Abstract

Abstract Background and Objectives: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in which glucose is underutilized, producing hyperglycemia. Furthermore, it is proposed that the underutilization of glucose is associated with changes in the lipid profile. Changes in lipid profiles are also well related to the severity of DM. This study involved 50 were patients admitted with a diagnosis of DM; blood samples were drawn under aseptic precautions from cases of DM and healthy controls. Necessary investigations were carried out and values were tabulated for cases and controls separately for statistical evaluation. Our Results show that the DM patients compared to controls significant increase in the following parameters were observed. Cholesterol ratios increased. Furthermore, the levels of triacylglycerol increased. We conclude that there is a statistically significant large effect in cholesterol and TG a level of cases compared with controls, cholesterol level is increased and TG levels were well associated with blood sugar also increased .

Abstract

Grape seeds are considered one of the most important sources for phenolic and other compounds and is globally consumed for the biological value of its active ingredients. The increasing prevalence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-related infections has become a very challenging health issue worldwide. This work aims at examining the antibacterial activity of alcoholic extract of black grape seeds (Vitis vinifera) against biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus haemolyticus. Staphylococcal bacterial isolates were first clinically confirmed using the VITEK-2compact system (ID and AST), and four isolates were selected depending on virulence and resistance to different types of antibiotics. The ability of S. aureus and S. haemolyticus isolates to form biofilm was examined using a standardized 96-well microtiter plate method. Furthermore, the effect of Moxifloxacin and Penicillin G with MIC, sub-MIC and sub-sub-MIC in preventing S. aureus and S. haemolyticus biofilm production, as well as that of the grape seed extract (180 mg/ml) were tested against biofilm formation. Our data indicate that all of the Staphylococcal bacterial isolates were able to produce biofilm which was prevented by the methanolic extracts of the crude seeds of Vitis vinifera rich in galloylated catechin esters of gallic acid. A significant (P < 0.001) synergistic effect between Penicillin G, Moxifloxacin with MIC, sub-MIC and sub-sub-MIC and that of the methanolic extract of Vitis vinifera (180 mg/ml) against bacterial biofilm formation was also detected. This report confirms the antibacterial activity of the methanolic extract of the black grape seeds.
