Date2026-04-15
Abstract

This study explores the hydraulic analysis of a combined system of rectangular sharp-crested weirs and rectangular gates, essential to control water flow in various applications. The weirs and gates are used for flow measurement in water distribution systems, reservoirs, sewage systems, and irrigation networks. The study aims to optimize design and operational strategies for the combined system, contributing to the field of hydraulic engineering. Five models of compound rectangular weirs with rectangular gates were tested using a downstream support.

STUDY THE RE-USE OF CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE FOR FRIENDLIER ENVIRONMENT: WASTE CONCRETE AND WASTE GRANITE AGGREGATES

AuthorsHawraa Hasan MOUSA, Hussein Shakir AL-BAHRANI
JournalCivil and Environmental Engineering
Date2024-12-16
Abstract

Waste aggregate concrete is the most common project in the world of construction. The waste materials are causing environmental pollution and hurting nature, the use of wastes give more clean nature and so that the use of wastes in concrete can solve these problems. This study aims to investigate the use of waste granite as coarse aggregate in concrete, studying also the use of waste concrete from old buildings as coarse aggregate, and then comparing between them.

Abstract

additives on its mechanical properties. This will be achieved by employing a high-performance super plasticizing admixture that significantly enhances polymer-modified concrete mechanical capabilities. The study indicates that the polymer styrene-butadiene rubber (used increases concrete mechanical properties by 10% by weight. When the dosage exceeds 10% by weight of cement, the compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths of polymer-modified concrete are diminished. With the addition of a superplasticizer with a ratio of 1.2%, regular polymer-modified concrete compressive strength has increased from 34.3 to 42.9 MPa for a 10% polymer/cement ratio. Additionally, this superplasticizer enhanced the Material's flexural and tensile strength.

Characterization and Identification of Species Used in Bonding UPVC Pipes

AuthorsSawsan Shubbar, Ali Abbas
Journal2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY: (ICEAT 2022)
Abstract

It is very important to identify the characteristics of a components used in commercial adhesives compositions. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of unknown species becomes a matter of interest when there must be a decision of choosing an appropriate product between different competitors or when choosing the specific type of additives in order to obtain a better understanding of the final approach of adhesives. By using different chemical analysis methods: thin layer chromatography, infrared spectrometry, gas-liquid chromatography, resonance NMR, and (C, H, N) analysis test, a qualitative and quantitative determination of constituent of UPVC pipe adhesive were achieved successfully and all the component’s quantities and types were uncovered. The main resin was identified as vinyl chloride copolymer/vinyl acetate and there were two types of both solvents and plasticizers, beside the Magnesium silicate as a filler material.

Effects of Using Corn Cover Fibers on Some Mechanical Properties of Concrete

AuthorsAli Abbas , Hayder Abbas Al-Yousefi Qusay Abdulhameed Jabal
JournalKey Engineering Materials
Abstract

This investigation aims to use corn cover as natural fibers in concrete mixes to improve some mechanical properties like compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength. using any type of fiber in concrete, in general, can improve the tensile and flexural strength of concrete. Concrete is weak in tension, so using fibers such as natural fibers like trunk fibers or industrial fibers such as steel fibers can improve tensile, the flexural strength of concrete and that may be decreasing the use of steel reinforcement in concrete, and also fibers can improve toughness and ductility of concrete because of its work inside the concrete that can reduce the propagation of cracks under loading. This study shows slight improvement on compressive strength by using fibers, but high increments in flexural strength, the optimum ratio of corn cover fibers was 2.5% by weight of cement which gives the highest values in compressive strength and flexural strength. compressive strength increased from (31.2 to 35.9) MPa (about 15% increment), increment for flexural strength was 70.6% for the optimum fibers content and the failure by using corn fibers was a ductile failure compared with plain concrete that gives sudden failure under flexure load, also tensile strength increased by using fibers, more fibers content beyond or more than 2.5% give lower values for the mechanical properties.
