Abstract

ABSTRACT Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most complex common and heterogeneous endocrine disorders of women in the reproductive age group, PCOS frequently is associated with insulin resistance (IR).Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a member of the transforming growth factor b family of growth and differentiation factors. Keywords: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and insulin resistance ABSTRACT The purpose of the present study was to test the hypothesis that serum sialic acid, a known powerful risk factor for diabetes mellitus in the general population is elevated in type 2 diabetic patients with micro vascular complications compared with diabetes without any micro vascular complications. Keywords: Sialic acid, Micro albumin and Creatinine

Abstract

Abstract Background Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the primary cause of death worldwide. It is mainly caused by atherosclerosis that initiates from a genetic-environmental interaction. Studies highlighted the association of numerous gene polymorphisms with CAD. Omentin-1 is secreted from visceral adipose tissues, intestine, and others; it has anti-inflammatory and insulin sensitivity improving roles. Aim To explore the association of the omentin-1 gene polymorphisms (rs2274907 and rs2274908) with serum lipid concentrations and CAD in a sample of the Iraqi population. Methods A case-control study was followed, in which CAD patients were analyzed versus a group of healthy persons. Serum lipid concentrations were measured by enzymatic methods. Genotyping of the omentin-1 gene for rs2274907 SNP was achieved by ARMS-PCR, while for rs2274908 SNP by allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR) techniques. Results Atherogenic serum lipid concentrations increased significantly in CAD patients relative to the control group. Genotyping of the omentin-1 gene for rs2274907 SNP revealed a significant (OR = 4.11, P = 0.035) elevation of the AT genotype carriers in CAD versus the control groups. The genotype analysis of the rs2274908 SNP failed to exhibit a significant variation. The two analyzed SNPs were indicated to be in linkage disequilibrium (r = 0.772, P < 0.0001). The global haplotype association of the 2 SNPs was demonstrated to be significant (P = 0.006). Serum lipid concentrations were found to be independent of the genotype distribution of the rs2274907 SNP. Conclusion Carriers of the AT genotype of rs2274907 SNP in the omentin-1gene may have a four-fold risk of developing CAD compared to those of the wild genotype. Alterations of serum lipid concentrations may do not depend on the genotypes of this SNP.

Abstract

ABSTRACT : Polymorphisms in the lipoprotein a gene has been implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease. There are wide differences in the allelic frequencies of individuals among various ethnic groups. The aim of this study was to determine the association of the lipoprotein a gene polymorphism (rs10455872-G allele) and the risk of developing coronary artery disease in a sample of Iraq population. Two groups of individuals including 150 patients with coronary artery disease and 100 healthy persons were analyzed for the studied polymorphism. Lipoprotein a gene was genotyped for the rs10455872 polymorphism by real time-PCR. Data ofrs10455872 A/G SNP of lipoprotein a gene were treated under several inheritance models. The dominant model explored a significant (OR = 2.42, CI 95%= 1.59-3.67, P:0.001) rise of the AG+GG carriers in the coronary artery disease patient group relative to the control group. The minor allele frequency was significantly (OR = 2.33, CI95% = 1.61-3.37, P: 0.001) raised in patients (20%) when compared with the control group (9%). The rs10455872-G allele of Lpa gene is associated with coronary artery disease patients in Iraqi individuals with a risk factor of 2.

Abstract

ABSTRACT : Coronary artery disease is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Numerous factors are implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease. Lipoprotein (a) is a low LDL like molecule, it has been considered as an independent risk factor for the coronary heart disease. The genetic back ground of the disease is not fully understood. The aim of the study was to critically evaluate the lipoprotein (a) polymorphism (rs3798220) as a risk factor for coronary artery disease in a sample of Iraqi peoples. One hundred coronary heart disease patients from Cardiac Center at Al-Saddr Teaching Hospital in Najaf were analyzed by real time-PCR for the rs3798220 SNP of lipoprotein (a) gene. One hundred healthy persons were also recruited as a control group and analyzed similarly. The genotype distribution of the studied SNP under various inheritance models, codominant, dominant, additive and recessive models, did not exhibit significant variation when the results of the patients were compared with the control group. The minor allele frequency also failed to explore significant changes in the group of patients with respect to the control group. Adjustment of results for sex, age and BMI values did not demonstrate significant variation. The rs3798220 SNP of lipoprotein (a) gene is not associated with coronary artery disease in Iraq population
