Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the Epstein –Barr virus in breast cancer the most common cancer in females for exploring possible viral association with breast malignancies. This project were included 52 formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue based samples so as called as blocks as (10 benign 32 malignant and 10 healthy breast tissues as control) from females with breast tumors in the central cancer of Al- Sader Teaching Hospital additional to the private laboratory in Al-Najaf city. This study was performed on cases constituting (76.19 %) malignancy (23.81 %) benign breast lesions. The work project in methodology based on immunohistochemistry (IHC) for detecting the Epstein –Barr virus related latent membrane protein -1. These malignant samples were higher rates (37.50%) within the range (45-54) years of the patient`s ages as well as 26/32 (81.25%) positive lymph node involvement and invasive ductal carcinoma rather than invasive lobular type. In the term of viral associated breast cancer, we found a clear significance as P< 0.01 to EBV positivity in malignant breast tissues 11(34.37 %) compared to the benign at which no evidence of association had reported , even we significantly registered as P< 0.01 in the percentages of EBV with many cancer related clinicopathological characteristics such as grade 3 and T2 stage of tumor size as 6(54.55 %) for each of them additional to N3 stage of lymphatic status 4(36.36%) compared to 6 ( 28.57%) , 11( 52.38%) and 7(33.33%) respectively for EBV negativity . In conclusion: EBV was represented a possible etiologic agent or a risk for breast cancer.

Abstract

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is abnormally activated in various cancer types, included with40% and more of breast cancers in contrast to accuratelyregulatedSTAT3 as a latent protein factor in normal mammary cells, this study aims to determine the signal transduction and activator of transcription factor ( STAT3) activity and expression level in human breast cancer involving RT-qPCR technique and performed at Al-Sader teaching hospital in the province of Al-Najaf – Iraq in which carried out on 52 formalin fixed and paraffinized breast tissue samples, of them 32 malignant, 10 benign breast lesions and 10 healthy normal mammary tissues as the control .Real time qPCR technique was applied onbreast tumor tissues and controls. The present research was found a statistical significance as value of P ≤ 0.01 in quantification of STAT3 between malignant and benign breast tissues compared with those of normal in which reflect the level of STAT3 activity and expression as in normal tissue were stable while in malignant ones exhibited substantial heterogenicity between minimal and maximal values of real time PCR cycle threshold with no evidence of significant association in STAT3 activity in relation with clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer .In conclusion: A high significantly relationship with STAT3 expression and activation and quantification of STAT3 between malignant and benign breast tissues compared with those of normal in which reflect the level of STAT3 activity and expression as in normal tissue were stable while in malignant ones exhibited substantial differences between minimal and maximal values in which STAT3 quantification were abnormal in breast malignant tissues .

The preoperative testing at laboratories in Najaf are being performed on patients at the time of the surgery in order to do this evaluation of blood-borne viruses

AuthorsAlaa Mahdy obaid Khzal
JournalEuropean Journal of Medical Genetics and Clinical Biology
Abstract

The purpose of this researched was to determine proportion of patients who were infected with the blood borne diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). All of these viruses are transmitted because the blood carries them.
