The diffusion of the drug from each of the above bases was investigated.
Results indicated that the effect of the type of ointment base on the release rate of phenytoin sod
ium is significant. The rate
and
extent of phenytoin sodium
release
and
diffusion through mouse skin was higher from the water soluble base (10% w/w)
compared to other ointment bases, the difference was highly
significant (P< 0.05).
