ABSTRACT : Meldrum’s acid was used as starting material in synthesis series of 2-Arylalkylthio-6-methylpyrimidine4-(3H)-one (5a–e) via series of steps. These steps involved reaction of Meldrum’s acid with acetyl chloride to give acyl
Meldrum’s acid, compounds (2), which in turn undergo hydrolysis to β-ketoester, compound (3), which could be reacted
with thiourea in basic medium to give 6-methyl-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidin-4(1H)-one, compound(4), on the other
hand ,compound (4) was reacted with various substituted alkyl halide to give 2-Arylakylthio-6-methyl pyrimidine-4-
(3H)-one derivatives (5a-e). These target compounds were confirmed on the basis of FT-IR, element analysis, 1HNMR
and 13C-NMR techniques.
