Well-defined Group VIII transition metal catalytic nanoparticles were prepd. following a pyrolysis method. Novel binary hierarchical systems were fabricated by electrospinning the metal nanoparticles in the presence of textile material, followed by at. layer (ALD) or pulsed-laser deposition techniques (PLD), resp. Immobilization of catalytic nanoparticles onto surfaces that consist of textile materials in the form of binary hierarchical systems is an attractive approach for green technol. applications. The resulting materials were characterized using electron microscopy, and x-ray diffraction, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The results indicated a 5% loading of the nanoparticles onto the textile supports. The selective redn. of cinnamaldehyde derivs. at C=C bonds or C=O bonds using the novel materials will be described.
